Base Class: Paladin
Paladins who take the Oath of the Scholar dedicate themselves to the pursuit of knowledge and understanding. For these paladins, the world is a vast repository of information waiting to be uncovered, and they seek to explore every corner of it to unlock the secrets within.
However, they do not delude themselves in believing that the world is as peaceful as the schools and libraries they love. They hone their bodies and refine their martial prowess to defend these sacred spaces from those who would abuse or destroy them.
These paladins share the following tenets.
- Seek the truth: do not be blinded by prejudice.
- Protect learning and freedom of information.
- Knowledge is power.
Epiphany
When you take the Magic action, you can expend one use of your Channel Divinity to gain a burst of inspiration. Choose a spell, from any class's spell list, that is at least 1st level and of a level you can cast. For the next 24 hours, or until you use this Channel Divinity option again, you learn that spell and can cast it using your spell slots, it becomes a Paladin spell for you, and it doesn't count against the number of spells you can prepare that day.
Oath of the Scholar Spells
The magic of your oath ensures you always have certain spells ready; when you reach a Paladin level specified in the Oath of the Scholar Spells table, you thereafter always have the listed spells prepared.
| Paladin Level | Spells |
|---|---|
| 3 | Comprehend Languages, Identify |
| 5 | Zone of Truth, Detect Thoughts |
| 9 | Tongues, Clairvoyance |
| 13 | Divination, Arcane Eye |
| 17 | Legend Lore, Scrying |
Divine Revelation
As a Magic action, you can expend one use of your Channel Divinity to augment your intellect. For the next 10 minutes, you gain the following benefits.
Intelligence. You gain a +5 bonus to Intelligence checks.
Tool Proficiency. You gain Proficiency in one tool of your choice.
Spell Scrolls. You can read a Spell Scroll and cast its spell even if the spell is not on your spell list. If you must make an ability check to cast the spell, you make the check with Advantage.
Concentration Aura
You are enveloped in a zone of focus. Whenever you or an ally within your Aura of Protection makes a Constitution saving throw to maintain Concentration on a spell, you or the ally can count a roll of 9 or lower on the d20 as a 10.
Discipline
When you take the Attack action on your turn, you can replace one of the attacks with a casting of one of your level 1 or level 2 Paladin spells that has a casting time of an action.
Enlightenment
You have achieved new heights of learning. As a Bonus Action, you gain the benefits below for 10 minutes or until you end them (no action required). Once you use this feature, you can’t use it again until you finish a Long Rest. You can also restore your use of it by expending a level 5 spell slot (no action required).
Discerning Strikes. You add your Intelligence modifier to attack rolls you make with a Melee weapon or an Unarmed Strike (minimum bonus of +1).
Refined Vocabulary. When you cast a level 1+ spell using a spell slot, you can cast the spell as if it were one level higher than the slot level used.
Quick Mind. You have Advantage on Intelligence saving throws.
