Base Class: Fighter
Amongst the vast snowy wastelands and fields of Ice, these swordsmen train their bodies to temper their wills and overcome their limits. Those who Practice the Northern Blade Arts replicate ice in the aura they exude and train their bodies to adapt to minute changes. Those who have faced these practitioners and lived have reported that the air around them turns cold when they fight and that their blade always slices cleanly.
One with the Ice
At 3rd level, you have trained your body to withstand the coldest environments. You gain resistance to cold damage.
Spider Lily
At 3rd level, you use your own blood in order to temper your weapon and deal more damage. As a bonus action, roll 1d6 and take that much damage, it cannot be reduced by any means. For the next minute, when you hit a creature with your weapon, you deal an additional 1d6 cold damage.
The damage increases to 1d8 at 7th level, 1d10 at 10th level, and 1d12 at 15th level
You can use this feature a number of times equal to your Proficiency bonus per Long Rest
Flash Freeze
At 7th level, whenever you are hit by a melee attack you can use a reaction to expel the cold energy within your body to attack those around you. All creatures within 10 feet of you must make a DEX check or take 2d6 cold damage and become restrained. On a successful save, they take half damage and their speed is halved instead.
Damage increases to 2d8 at 10th level and 2d10 at 15th level
You can use this feature a number of times equal to your Proficiency Bonus per Long Rest
Northern Style: Falling Snow
At 10th level, you can create an aura that affects the area within 15 feet around you. As an action, you declare an arena around you, covering it slightly with ice and snow, as it begins to swirl around the area. You gain temporary hit points equal to your fighter level + your CON mod.
While inside of the arena, other creatures must make a CON saving throw or they cannot take their reactions until the end of their next turn. They must make this save every turn they start inside of the arena.
Creatures that attack you while inside the arena make the attacks at disadvantage as frost starts to encase their joints.
Northern Style: Avalanche
Starting at 15th level, you have gained an increasing understanding of the Northern Blade arts. Ingulfing your sword in your icy aura, you make a ranged attack against a creature within 120 feet of you. That creature must make a DEX saving throw or take 10d8 cold damage, or half as much on a success. Whenever the creature takes the damage, they must then make a STR save or be knocked prone.
You can use this feature once per Long Rest
Northern Style: Blossoming Snow Lotus
At 18th level, you attain the pinnacle of combat prowess in the Northern Blade Style. As an action, you can empower your Northern Style: Falling Snow. You gain the following effects:
- The area is increased from 15 feet to 30 feet
- When an enemy enters the area for the first time or starts their turn within the area, they must make a DEX save or take 4d6 points of damage, or half on a successful save as ice spears form and attack
- Any creature that is within the area as soon as you activate it must make a DEX save or become restrained until the end of your next turn
- While the area is active your speed is doubled
- Attacks you make against creatures within the area have advantage
