Paladin
Base Class: Paladin

The Oath of Faith and Flame calls to paladins who are driven by an unquenchable passion for righteousness and the transformative power of fire. For these paladins, the flame is not merely a weapon; it is a symbol of their unwavering devotion and a source of purification. They seek to ignite hope in the hearts of the oppressed and to purge darkness from the world, believing that through fire, true enlightenment can be achieved.

Known as Flamebearers or holy igniters, those who swear this oath form sacred orders dedicated to gods or ideals of light, purity, and renewal. They often adorn their armor with motifs of fire, wearing the embers of their faith like a radiant cloak. In battle, they channel the cleansing heat of their flames, striking down evil with both fervor and compassion.

Some of these paladins venture into realms of elemental fire or commune with celestial beings, drawing power from the eternal flames that burn within the cosmos. They seek to embody the dual nature of fire—capable of destruction yet also nurturing life. However, a few may tread a precarious path, risking their own souls by embracing an unyielding fervor that borders on fanaticism. These zealots are often challenged by their peers, who fear that such an intensity could lead to the very tyranny they aim to extinguish.

Tenets of Faith and Flame

  • Embrace the Flame: Honor the fire within you. Let your passion and faith burn brightly, fueling your resolve and illuminating the path for others.

  • Purge with Fire: Use the cleansing power of flames to rid the world of corruption and darkness. Your fire is a tool of purification, not destruction.

  • Foster the Light: Share the warmth of your faith with those around you. Inspire hope and courage in others, igniting their own inner fires.

  • Stand Against the Darkness: Face all threats with unwavering courage. Your faith shields you from fear, empowering you to confront evil head-on.

  • Nurture the Flame: Protect and guide those who seek the light. Just as a fire needs careful tending, so too do the souls of those around you.

  • Transform Through Fire: Understand that fire can bring both creation and destruction. Embrace change and growth, using your experiences to become stronger

Channel Divinity

When you take this oath at 3rd level, you gain the following two Channel Divinity options. See the Sacred Oath class feature for how Channel Divinity works.

Burning Vengeance - You can use your Channel Divinity to punish those who dare to harm you. Immediately after a creature you can see within 60 feet of you deals damage to you with an attack, you can use your reaction to force the attacker to make a Dexterity saving throw. On a failed save, the attacker takes fire damage equal to the damage it just dealt. On a successful save, it takes half as much damage.

Guided Strike. You can use your Channel Divinity to strike with supernatural accuracy. When you make an attack roll, you can use your Channel Divinity to gain a +10 bonus to the roll. You make this choice after you see the roll, but before the DM says whether the attack hits or misses.

Aura of Unwavering Faith

Starting at 7th level, you constantly emanate an aura of unwavering faith while you’re not incapacitated. This aura extends 20 feet from you in every direction. You and allies within this aura can add your Charisma modifier to a skill check, attack roll, or saving throw once per short rest. If you or an ally successfully complete a task using this bonus, they gain temporary hit points equal to your level.

At 18th level, the range of this aura increases to 45 feet.

Burning Soul

Starting at 15th level, you gain resistance to radiant damage. In addition, when a creature attacks you while you are not incapacitated, it takes fire damage equal to your Charisma modifier.

Champion of the Eternal Flame

At 20th level, you gain the ability to harness the true heights of your abilities. As an action, your being becomes wrapped in flames, transforming into an avatar of fiery conquest as you channel the aggression burning deep within.

  • Fiery wings sprout from your back. You gain a fly speed of 60 feet, and you shed bright light in a 30 ft radius and dim light 30 ft beyond that.
  • You emanate an aura of the Eternal Flame in a 10-foot radius. When an enemy creature enters this radius for the first time, they take 1d8 fire damage. If a creature starts their turn within the radius they take an additional 1d8 fire damage.
  • When you take the Attack action on your turn, you can make one additional attack as part of that action.
  • Your melee weapon attacks score a critical hit on a roll of 19 or 20 on the d20.

Once you use this feature, you can’t use it again until you finish a long rest.
