Barbarian
Base Class: Barbarian

An unpredictable way of playing a barbarian. The more you level up the more chaotic the effects of randomness will affect you.

Shatter Surge

At 3rd level a fragmented barbarian can choose to deal extra damage on an attack with a Shatter Surge. After they hit with a melee weapon attack they can use a charge of Shatter Surge to add additional damage dice to that attack a number of times equal to their proficiency modifier per long rest. At 3rd level the damage die is 2d4, increasing to 2d6 at 10th level, 2d8 at 14th level. These damage die count as part of the attack and therefore are increased when determining a critical or brutal critical strike. The damage type is determined by rolling 1d10 when using a Shatter Surge and following the table:

Roll

1

Fire

2

Cold

3

Lightning

4

Poison

5

Acid

6

Reality Shift

At 3rd level, when the barbarian enters their rage, they shatter a piece of themself ignoring certain fundamental laws. The type of rage is called Reality and is determined randomly by rolling 1d4 whenever the barbarian begins their rage:

  • Speed: At the start of their turn hostile creatures within 15ft. of the barbarian must make a Constitution saving throw to avoid having their speed halved and lose their reaction this turn. The DC equals 8 + your proficiency bonus + your constitution modifier.
  • Distance: After the barbarian hits a hostile creature with a shatter surge, they can teleport up to 30 feet to a point they can see.
  • Attraction: When raging hostile creatures within 15ft. of the barbarian who leave this radius are pulled up to 10 ft. toward the barbarian and suffer disadvantage on attacks against creatures other than the barbarian until the end of their turn.
  • Chance: Each ally (including yourself) within 10ft. of the barbarian can add 1d4 to attack rolls and saving throws.

Reality Dissociation

At 6th level, whenever you rage and after determining what Reality you activate, you can choose to spend another use of rage to utilise Reality Dissociation, granting you bonus effects depending on what Reality is active.

  • Speed: The barbarians speed is doubled and they can use a bonus action to make an additional attack or take the Disengage action
  • Distance: The barbarian can open two portals, one next to themselves and another at a point within 60 feet. They may attack a creature through this portal as if the two portals are adjacent to one another. This attack deals additional damage equal to one roll of a Shatter Surge and prevents them from using another Shatter Surge as part of the attack.
  • Attraction: The barbarian cannot be moved against their will or knocked prone, and when they hit a creature with a melee weapon attack it must make a Strength saving throw or be knocked prone. The DC equals 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Constitution modifier.
  • Chance: When a creature hits the barbarian with an attack, the barbarian can use their reaction to force the creature to re-roll the attack against itself, on a hit the creature takes half damage instead of the barbarian.

Unstable Resilience

At 10th level, your connection to the shattered fragments of reality grants you an unstable but formidable resilience. Whenever you take damage while you have at least one charge of Shatter Surge remaining, you can use your reaction to unleash a surge of raw energy from within. Roll one of your Shatter Surge damage dice and reduce the damage you take by the result rolled plus your Constitution modifier. This reaction can be used after the damage reduction of your rage.

Furthermore, if the damage reduction from Unstable Resilience reduces the incoming damage to zero, you regain one charge of Shatter Surge.

Sunder Reality

At 14th level, whenever you hit a creature critically with a melee weapon attack whether through a Nat 20 or other crit range reducing effects you apply a bonus effect depending on your currently active Reality:

  • Speed: After you hit a creature enter a state of accelerated frenzy. Until the end of your next turn, your speed is tripled and you gain a bonus to your AC equal to your proficiency bonus. In this state you cannot completely control your movement, restricting you to move in straight lines until you collide with another creature or object of similar size to you.
  • Distance: The strike causes the barbarian to unleash portals at every creature within a 30ft. radius chosen within 60ft. of the barbarian. All creatures inside must make a Dexterity saving throw and take damage equal to their Shatter Surge damage (as if it critically hit) and be pushed 10ft. straight away from the center of the area or half as much damage and not be pushed away when succeeding the save. The DC equals 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Constitution modifier.
  • Attraction: Until the end of your next turn the creature hit has massively increased mass, causing it to move at half speed while your mass decreases and become sluggish. Your speed is reduced by 10 and have disadvantage on Dexterity saving throws while also suffering disadvantage on attack rolls as long as the marked creature is present. Additionally ranged attacks against the marked creature are made at advantage and other creatures you hit after marking one must make a Strength saving throw or be pulled towards the marked creature on a direct path, colliding on contact and causing them to take damage equal a Shatter Surge. The DC equals 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Constitution modifier.
  • Chance: After being hit the creature must make a Wisdom saving throw or have their body frozen in stasis until the end of your next turn. A creature affected this way cannot be damaged however it also cannot take any actions, bonus actions, movement or reactions. The DC equals 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Constitution modifier. If a creature succeeds, you restore HP equal to the total saving throw of the affected creature and gain half of that value as THP. After this effect resolves you must choose another Reality to activate except Chance but don't expend a use of rage when doing so except for when you enter another hyper rage.
