Cleric
Base Class: Cleric

Balance Domain Clerics use their divine abilities to both heal their allies and destroy their enemies. All things must be balanced, however, and they achieve their true power through helping and harming in equal measure.

3rd Level - Pursuit of Balance

Balance Domain Clerics have the ability to heal and harm in equal measure. When they damage a creature or heal an ally with a spell or cantrip, they gain a stack of Balance. If their next spell or cantrip cast does the opposite of the previous spell or cantrip cast (heal if they dealt damage previously, or vice versa) they gain another stack of Balance. Balance can stack up to 8 times, and all stacks of Balance are lost if two spells that heal or deal damage are cast in a row, or when combat ends.

All healing spells heal additional HP equal to the number of stacks of Balance.

All damaging spells and cantrips deal additional damage equal to the number of stacks of Balance.

When Balance stacks are lost from casting a spell or cantrip, the spell or cantrip heals additional HP or deals additional damage equal to half of the lost Balance stacks, rounded down. This bonus is in addition to the bonus gained from stacks of Balance.

6th Level - Channel Divinity - Balance

The Balance Domain Cleric's Channel Divinity has a different effect depending on their last spell cast. If a healing spell was cast previously, then "Damn the Living" is used. If a damaging spell was cast previously, then "Cure the Living" is used. Alternative, "Sear Undead" or "Divine Spark" can be used instead, and will not effect Balance stacks.

Damn the Living: Each living creature of your choice within 30 feet of you must make a Wisdom saving throw. The DC equals 8 + proficiency bonus + Wisdom modifier. Roll a number of d8s equal to your Wisdom modifier (minimum of 1d8) and add the rolls together. Each living creature that fails its saving throw against this use of Damn the Living takes Necrotic damage equal to the roll’s total. Gain two stacks of Balance. This counts as a damaging spell for the purposes of gaining stacks of Balance.

Cure the Living: Select any number of living creatures within 30 feet. Roll a number of d8s equal to your Wisdom modifier (minimum of 1d8) and add the rolls together. Each living creature that was targeted receives healing equal to the roll’s total. Gain two stacks of Balance. This counts as a healing spell for the purposes of gaining stacks of Balance.

6th Level - Achieving Balance

The Balance Domain Cleric now has a maximum of 15 stacks of Balance. When they have no stacks of Balance and would gain a stack by casting a spell or cantrip, they gain 5 stacks instead.

At 7th level, an attack made with Blessed Strike now counts as a spell for the purpose of losing or gaining stacks of Balance, and Blessed Strikes gains the Balance bonus damage.

17th Level - True Balance

The Balance Domain Cleric now has a maximum of 25 stacks of Balance, and when all stacks are lost from casting a spell or cantrip, they gain 8 stacks immediately after. When initiative is rolled, they gain 8 stacks of Balance. When they would gain stacks from a spell or cantrip, they gain two stacks instead.

When stacks of Balance are lost by casting a spell or cantrip, it gains a bonus to healing or damage dealt equal to the total number of stacks lost, instead of half. This bonus is in addition to the Balance bonus healing or damage.
