Base Class: Wizard
As beings with immense magical power, Dragons are naturally a point of interest for wizards. Very few, however, pursue the study of draconic magic in order to harness it for themselves like these wizards do. From learning to resist and emulate a dragon's elemental attacks to exuding a draconic presence themselves, Dragon Study wizards are able to apply their research in extremely effective and powerful ways. Whether fighting against or alongside those that they study, these wizards are formidable foes.
Draconic Studies
At 2nd level, your study of dragons has lead you to have a better understanding of them and their history. You can read, write and speak Draconic. You also have advantage on any Wisdom, Intelligence, and Charisma checks pertaining to dragons.
Dragon's Essence
At 2nd level. your study of dragons has allowed you to decipher the magic behind their elemental abilities.
Whenever you take a long rest, choose a damage type associated with dragons: Fire, Cold, Acid, Poison, or Lightning. Until your next long rest, you have resistance to that damage type and when you deal that damage type with a spell of 1st level or higher, you may deal additional damage equal to the spell's level + your Intelligence Modifier.
Additionally, as a reaction when you take fire, cold, acid, poison, or lightning damage, you can choose to change this feature to a different damage type. You can take this reaction a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, and regain all uses during a long rest.
Dragon's Breath
At 6th level, your research has advanced to the point where you can emulate a dragon's most infamous ability.
You automatically add the Dragon's Breath spell to your spellbook. It is always prepared but does not count against your number of prepared spells and does not require any verbal, somatic, nor material components. If you already have the Dragon's Breath spell, it becomes always prepared in this way and you may instead learn an additional spell of 2nd level or lower that functions as normal.
Furthermore, you may cast the Dragon's Breath spell once on yourself at the highest level for which you have spellslots without expending a spellslot of that level. Once you have cast the spell in this way, you cannot do so again until completing a long rest.
Draconic Presence
Starting at 10th level, you learn to channel the essence of a dragon through yourself to briefly emulate their frightening presence.
As an action, each creature of the your choice within 120 feet that is aware of your presence must succeed on a Wisdom saving throw against your Spell Save DC or become frightened of you for 1 minute. A creature can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on itself on a success. If a creature's saving throw is successful or the effect ends for it, the creature is immune to your Frightful Presence for the next 24 hours.
You can use this feature a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus and regain all expended uses on a long rest.
Draconic Aura
Also at 10th level, your draconic magic can spread to those around you and grant them some of your abilities.
Whenever you change the element for your Dragon's Essence as a Reaction to taking damage, you gain an aura out to 30 feet. While this aura is active, damage you deal of the active element of your Dragon's Essence ignores resistance against Dragon creature types. Creatures that you choose within this aura share your elemental damage resistance from your Dragon's Essence feature. Additionally, any chosen creature can deal additional damage equal to your Intelligence modifier of the damage type from your Dragon's Essence feature. A creature can deal this extra damage only once on their turn. This aura ends after 1 minute or if you die or fall unconscious.
Alternatively, you can activate this aura as a bonus action on your turn. It has the same duration in either case and if you change damage type as a reaction, that change also applies to the benefits gained from the aura but does not reset the duration. You can activate it as a bonus action in this way a number of times equal to half your Proficiency Bonus (rounded down) and regain all uses during a Long Rest.
Scaled Wings
Starting at 14th level, you have learned how to magically transmute yourself to resemble the dragons you study.
By expending a 3rd or higher level spellslot as an action, a pair of draconic wings sprout from your back, ripping through any clothing or armour or morphing them to accommodate the wings (your choice). For 1 hour you have a flying speed of 60ft, after which the wings morph back into your body. If you choose to expend another 3rd or higher level spellslot when this effect ends, you can instead continue to sustain it for another hour. This feature can be used as long as you have high enough level spellslots to expend.
Along with these wings, scales form across your body for the duration. While this ability is active, you gain a bonus to AC equal to your Intelligence modifier (minimum of 1) and resistance to one of the following draconic damage types: fire, cold, lightning, poison, or acid (it needn’t be the same type chosen from your Dragon’s Essence feature).
Improved Draconic Aura
Also at 14th level, your Draconic Aura increases in strength.
While the aura is active, you now also treat Immunity to your aura's type as resistance when dealing damage to Dragon creature types. Additionally, the aura extends to 60ft and the additional damage dealt by your allies from this aura also ignores resistance and treats immunity as resistance to Dragon creature types.
