Base Class: Barbarian
The apex predator known as the dragon is a power sought after by most. For some it is the brilliant pride. For others it might be the prowess with the arcane. But rarely there are those who take it further, becoming obsessed with the sheer power. Wishing to become like those dragons, there began a tradition of consuming them. Taking their flesh and devouring them to feel more whole. With that rose a dangerous side effect, the passage of time revealing frenzied warriors being overtaken by the post mortem draconic energy. Their bodies being corroded by the dying flesh of dragons, their minds broken.
And so they sought the Path of the Dragon. To control this unruly power, to become dragons themselves. They consume dragons, and arise as something else.
Draconic Corrosion
3rd-level Path of the Dragon feature
Your body is corroded by the consumed dragon, constantly in a struggle to maintain a healthy mind and not lose control. Breaking forth new untamed powers at the cost of your sense of self.
You have a pool of Sanity points equal to half your Barbarian level. You can spend Sanity points to use your draconic abilities. When you have 0 Sanity points remaining, you lose control and begin to act erratically. At the start of your turns you roll a 1d6, you must roll a number equal to your proficiency bonus or higher to regain 1 Sanity point. If you score a critical strike you regain Sanity points equal to your Intelligence modifier (Minimum of 1). If a creature scores a critical strike on you, then you lose 1 Sanity point.
You regain all Sanity points after completing a long rest.
While you have 0 Sanity points you are considered insane, at the start of your turns you must roll a 1d4 and follow through with the actions listed in the table below.
| 1d4 | Insanity Actions |
|---|---|
| 1 | The dragon within hungers for violence, lashing out at the world around it. You attack the nearest creature with all of your melee attacks. |
| 2 | The dragon yearns for destruction, looking to raze the field. You use your breath weapon on as many creatures as possible. |
| 3 | The dragon's rage is unleashed, eyes burning with scorn. You use your frightful presence on all creatures within range. |
| 4 | The dragon begins to rebel, you remain steadfast but it wreaks havoc on your mind. You writhe in pain and take 1d12 psychic damage. |
Untamed Power
3rd-level Path of the Dragon feature
While you are raging, you gain access to the wild power of the consumed dragon. Each of the following abilities use Sanity points. Any abilities that require a saving throw use (8 + your proficiency bonus + your Constitution modifier) for their save DCs.
Breath Weapon. You can replace one of your attacks with a 30 ft. cone of draconic energy, creatures must make a Dexterity saving throw or take your proficiency bonus in d6s necrotic damage. Taking half as much on a failure. (1 Sanity point)
Frightful Presence. You can replace one of your attacks with an oppressive aura, causing each creature of your choice that is within 60 ft. of you to make a Wisdom saving throw or be frightened for 1 minute. This saving throw can be repeated at the end of its turns, ending the effect on a success. If a creature's saving throw is successful or the effect ends for it, the creature is immune to Frightful Presence for the next 24 hours. (2 Sanity points)
Wings. You can use your bonus action to force each creature within 10 ft. of you to make a Strength saving throw or take 2d6 bludgeoning damage and be knocked prone. After which you can move up to half your movement speed. (1 Sanity point)
Fling. When you hit with an attack, you can force the target to be flung away from you a number of feet equal to your proficiency bonus times 5 and be knocked prone. (1 Sanity point)
Claw. You can use your bonus action to make a special unarmed attack roll, on hit the target does not take damage but suffers from a grievous wound for 1 minute. At the start of each of its turns it must make a Constitution saving throw or take your proficiency bonus in d6s necrotic damage. The creature can use its reaction at the start of its turn to staunch the wound, ending the effect. (1 Sanity point)
Bite. You can use your bonus action to make a special unarmed attack roll, on hit the target does not take damage but is restrained until the end of your turn. (1 Sanity point)
Tail. You can use your bonus action to make a special unarmed attack roll, on hit the target does not take damage but instead is knocked upward into the air 10 feet. (1 Sanity point)
Drake of Scorn
6th-level Path of the Dragon feature
The consumed dragon further unleashes its corrosive power, affecting the very state of the air and land around you. Once during a combat, one of the following effects can be activated when the condition is met. After one of the effects is activated, you can not activate another effect until you complete a short rest. Abilities that require a saving throw use (8 + your proficiency bonus + your Constitution modifier) for their save DCs.
Hatred of the Fire Dragon. If a creature scores a critical strike on you, then you may activate this effect. Every time you end your turns you choose a point on the ground that you can see within 120 ft. of you. At the start of the next round that spot erupts in a 20 ft. high, 5 ft. radius geyser. Each creature in the geyser’s area must make a Dexterity saving throw or take your proficiency bonus in d6s fire damage.
Brutality of the Ice Dragon. If you score a critical strike on a creature, then you may activate this effect. Every time you end your turns you make a ranged attack roll on a number of creatures equal to your Constitution modifier as you throw icicles in a fury. Each attack that hits deals no damage, but instead creates a freezing fog centered on the target filling a 10 ft. radius sphere. The fog spreads around corners, and its area is heavily obscured. Creatures that end their turns within the fog must make a Constitution saving throw or take your proficiency bonus in d6s cold damage. At the start of your turn the fog dissipates.
Cruelty of the Storm Dragon. If you roll a natural 20 on a saving throw, then you may activate this effect. Every time you end your turns, you choose a point you can see within 30 ft. of you. At the end of the round you leap to that point and force creatures within 5 ft. of you to make a Strength saving throw or take your proficiency bonus in d6s lightning damage.
Frenzied Wyrm
10th-level Path of the Dragon feature
While you are raging you can spend 1 Sanity point as an action to take the form of a Dragon. You assume the form of a Dragon of a Challenge Rating equal to or lower than your Barbarian level. While in this form you retain all of your statistics and gain all of the actions the Dragon would normally have with the exception of Spellcasting and Legendary Actions, any saving throws the dragon would have instead use (8 + your proficiency bonus + your Constitution modifier) for their save DCs. At the start of each of your turns while you assume the form of a Dragon you lose 1 Sanity point. You can end this form early by using a bonus action.
Test of Will
14th-level Path of the Dragon feature
The dragon is rebelling more fervently, untapped power pouring out from your body at your most vulnerable moments. When you roll for your Sanity to recharge, you gain augmented effects depending on the result of the roll.
- On a roll of 6, you gain temporary hit points equal to your Barbarian level and can deal an additional 1d6 necrotic damage on your attacks while you retain these temporary hit points. When these temporary hit points are lost, creatures within a 10 ft. radius sphere centered on yourself must make a Charisma saving throw DC (8 + proficiency bonus + Constitution modifier) or must run away from you using their reaction.
- On a roll of 1, you take half your Barbarian level d6s in psychic damage and must use your reaction to move to the nearest creature and attack them with a full attack action.
If you would die by taking psychic damage from this feature, then you turn into a dragon of your DM's choice and lose control of your body entirely as the consumed dragon rebels. This cannot be reverted by any means short of a casting of Wish or equivalent magics.
