Paladin
Base Class: Paladin

The paladins of Gloomlight are sword protectors of the Mistwood Forests and devote knights of the grey in between light and dark. These paladins live by their own code and rules, mistrustful and skeptical of outsiders.

Their oath binds them to balance. They must never stray too far from good or too far from evil. They must crush those who oppose this balance, and sustain the natural peace that is rooted everywhere. The good in your deeds should never be overshadowed by the darkness, and the light should never overtake what evil is necessary. No one is above balance, and no one should defy it.

All Gloomlight Paladins go through an indoctrination ritual. This ritual takes 5 days, each a different trial to prove your devotion, purity, and strength.

The first day is Fortulus. On this day the novice is to spend the day crafting their armor with a mentor. This armor is crafted from the feet up and with fine tuning and close hand guidance from the mentor. At the end of the day, the helmet is crafted, which is designed with a style that reflects the bearer. This armor is not to be doffed until the ritual is complete.

The second day is Bohdridus. At the dawn of this day, the novice is sent deep into the Mistwood with nothing but their new armor. It is believed if the novice survives until dusk the forests judge their spirit as pure and worthy.

The third day is Tranquilus. The novice is led to the Grove of Blades and the Gloomlight Hearthtree at the center by a mentor. After prayer and presenting yourself to the tree, it drops a long lead, or pair of leaves to the ground in front of you. The novice wraps them around their arm or arms as they recite their vows and pray until dusk.

The fourth day is Gwichdus. The novice returns to the forge and is walked through the process of forging their blades by a mentor. I’m the heart of these blades are the leaves they received the day before, and they spend the entire bday refining the blades, communing with them until they finally craft their legendary Moonblades.

The fifth day is Tempturus. The novice fences with a mentor to grow their bond with their swords, then after dusk they venture into the Mistwood and slay a Gloom Spider. If they return alive with the head of the spider, priests will carve the image of the face of the spider onto the chest plate of the novice, then will gift them its fangs. The novice is now no longer a learner, but a paladin of Gloomlight.

In addition while this ability is active, whenever you hit an enemy with an attack you gain 1 Weaving die, which is determined by your level. After you hit an enemy with a unarmed strike or weapon attack you may expend all your Weaving dice and roll them to deal that much radiant damage to the target. You lose all dice when this effect ends.

Your Weaving dice start at a d4, become a d6 at 5th level, a d8 at 11th level, a d10 at 15th level, and a d12 at 19th level.

You can end this effect early (no action required).

Move 15ft. towards a creature within 15ft. of you and force them to make a constitution saving throw or take 6d8 radiant damage + the number of Weaving dice you have (Expend all your Weaving dice). You regain hit points equal to half of the radiant damage dealt.

You can use this feature a number of times equal to your Charisma modifier. You regain all expended uses after a Long Rest.

Level 20: Avatar of the Monarch

As a Bonus Action, you can imbue yourself with the power of Gloomlight for 1 minute. For the duration you gain the effects of your Monarch’s Wings ability if it is not already active, and in addition you gain a Weaver die at the start of each of your turns.

As a Magic action, you may end this effect early. When you do so roll your remaining Weaver dice and roll them. You deal Radiant damage equal to the total rolled and heal damage equal to the total rolled among any number of creatures within 30ft. of you.
