Tenets of Slaughter

The tenets of the Oath of Slaughter remind you that your rage is your main source of strength against the wicked, and how to control this rage:

  • Mercy and Punishment. Know that the wicked are your enemy. In your endless fury, remember to express gratitude to those that aid you.
  • Fury and Mettle. Do not rest until it is done. You fight not only for yourself, but also for all of those around you, whether they like it or not.
  • Heaven and Hell. You walk a hard path. Be it heaven or hell, know that wolves hide in sheep clothes, and that the wicked could be anywhere at any time.
  • Rip and Tear. Fight with endless anger. Show no mercy to the wicked, for they are true incarnations of evil and will only receive swift and ravenous destruction.

Level 3: Oath of Slaughter Spells

The magic of your oath ensures you always have certain spells ready; when you reach a Paladin level specified in the Oath of Slaughter Spells table, you thereafter always have the listed spells prepared.

Oath of Devotion Spells
Paladin Level Spells
3 Bane, Inflict Wounds
5 Flame Blade, Heat Metal
9 Haste, Dispel Magic
13 Death Ward, Guardian of Faith
17 Dispel Evil and Good, Wall of Force

Level 3: Channel Divinity: Carnage Unleashed

  • As a bonus action, you channel the raw fury of slaughter. Until the end of your next turn:
    • Your weapon attacks score a critical hit on a roll of 19 or 20.
    • When you reduce a creature to 0 hit points, you can make an additional weapon attack as part of the same action.

Level 7: Aura of Rage

Starting at 7th level, you constantly emanate an aura of rage while you’re not incapacitated. The aura extends 10 feet from you in every direction, but not through total cover. A number of creatures of your choice within your aura deal an additional 1d6 radiant damage when making weapon attacks. At 18th level, the range of this aura increases to 30 feet.

Level 15: Ravage and Destroy

At 15th level, you learn how to strike upon the deadliest of creatures. Whenever you score a critical hit, bring a creature to 0 hit points, or bring a creature to half their hit points, you gain a number of temporary hit points equal to half your paladin level.

Level 20: Undying Slaughter

At 20th level, you gain the ability to harness extraordinary fury and determination. As an action, you can magically become an avatar of slaughter, gaining the following benefits for 1 minute:

  • Whenever you deal damage with a weapon attack, you regain hit points equal to half your paladin level.
  • You have resistance to fire and poison damage.
  • You add half your level to all damage you deal.
