Sorcerer
Base Class: Sorcerer

The Butterfly of Light sorcerer subclass weaves the delicate balance of radiant light and necrotic darkness. Guided by a celestial butterfly spirit, you command swarms of magical butterflies to protect your allies, confuse your enemies, and alter the tide of battle.

From summoning gentle butterflies to heal fiends and undead to unleashing devastating swarms that siphon life force, this subclass offers a unique mix of support and destruction. As you grow in power, your connection to the butterfly spirit allows you to perform incredible feats, from absorbing damage with radiant wings to summoning catastrophic swarms of light and darkness.

With the grace of a butterfly and the fury of a storm, the Butterfly of Light stands as a radiant enigma on the battlefield, blending beauty, danger, and mysticism into one.

Level 3: Butterfly of Light

When you choose this subclass at level 3, you channel the ethereal energy of light and dark, manifesting as butterflies that are both beautiful and deadly. With the guidance of a celestial butterfly spirit, you can command these magical insects to deal necrotic damage, heal the unholy, and disrupt your enemies in combat.

You gain the Butterfly's Kiss cantrip, which does not count against your number of known cantrips. This cantrip allows you to summon a butterfly to gently land on a target and siphon vitality. You can use your Charisma modifier as the spellcasting ability for this cantrip. If you target a creature that is a demon, fiend, or undead, it instead heals the creature for necrotic damage equal to your sorcerer level. If the creature is neither a demon, fiend, nor undead, it deals necrotic damage equal to your sorcerer level.

Butterfly Swarm

Feature: Linked to Butterfly's Kiss

When you cast Butterfly's Kiss, you can expend 1 sorcery point to conjure a cloud of ethereal butterflies in a 15-foot radius centered on a point you can see within 60 feet. The cloud lasts for 1 minute and provides the following effects:

  • Creatures within the area have disadvantage on attack rolls as the butterflies obscure their vision and distract them.
  • You have advantage on saving throws against spells cast by creatures within the area.

The butterflies are a manifestation of your bond with the Butterfly of Light spirit and shimmer softly with radiant or necrotic energy.

Level 3: Detect Presence and Butterfly Spells

Starting at 3rd level, you can sense the presence of enemies nearby. As a bonus action, you detect any creatures within 30 feet of you that are not behind total cover. You can use this ability a number of times equal to your Charisma modifier (minimum of once) per long rest.
