Order of the sapphire star
(the places mentioned in the below is from the campaign I'm currently playing in, feel free to switch it with something fitting your campaign, do what you want, i'm not a cop)
Hierarchy
- Gran Maestro
- Artium Magister
- Connoisseur
- Artium initiate
- Connoisseur initiate (also referred to as Amateurs)
The order of the sapphire star works much like a Christian monastery. The Gran Maestro is in charge, the Artium Magister is his second in command, and the Connoisseurs are basically the monks. The Artium initiate is the next in line to become the Artium Magister. his/her rank will be the same as an initiate, until he/her has completed their pilgrimage, thereafter they will have the rank of Connoisseur.
When the Gran Maestro dies or retires, the Artium Magister will become the new Gran Maestro, and the Artium initiate will become the new Artium Magister. the Artiums Magisters first task will be to find a new Artium initiate from outside of the monastery, and is not to return until an initiate is found.
Basic Structure
The order of the sapphire star is an elite force of both paladins, and clerics who worship Corellon, the creator of the elven race. They are mostly called upon by the elven empires when great evil arises, or in most cases, to hunt the monsters that harass their citizens. they have been known to accept tasks from other races, though not very often. If a task involves the slaying of Lolth worshippers, they will accept, no matter what.
The monastery houses 20 members at the moment.
1 Gran Maestro
1 Artium Magister
12 Connaisseurs
1 Artium initiate
5 Initiates
Favored weapons: longsword, longbow
The commandments
Thwart the followers of Lolth, the foulest of creature, at every opportunity
Vanquish the monstrous and grotesque, they are an affront to Corellons beauty
Share the gifts of Corellon, to enlighten the world (painting, dancing, music, craftsmanship, fighting)
Lies, deception and illusions are the domains of Lolth, and therefore abominable in the eyes of Corellon (works like a permanent zone of truth on you, if you break it, you break your oath)
life of the initiate
Every 50 years, 20 candidates are brought, mainly from the 2 elven capitals, but also from smaller cities. This is an easy task, as it is considered one of the highest honours to serve the creator of the race to this extent. 2 Connoisseurs are sent 2 Nibelheim and Kakue to decide who will be the candidates. People from all layers of society are welcome to present an elven child from the ages 9-14. After 6 months of training and trials, 5 of the children will be selected. 3 paladin initiates and 2 cleric initiates. the rest are sent home with an escort
The initiates' lives begin with finding your favoured artform. afterward their life will be nothing but studying religion and history (mostly related to Corellon), practice of their chosen artform and combat training, all supervised by Connoisseurs. After 50 years of training and studying, they are to undergo their pilgrimage. to both experience the world and to complete a task of their choice which can be anything from slaying a monstrous being to finding a lost elven relic, but a few heads from followers of Lolth will also suffice.
The pilgrimage must take a minimum of 50 years, though many will journey for a longer time, and the ones stricken by wanderlust will take as long as 150 years. When returning home with their trophy of choice, the whole monastery will celebrate with wine, music and dancing, and the returning initiate will get to choose a name, and they will gain the rank of Connoisseur.
While on the pilgrimage, the initiates will be scryed upon once a month on a specific date and time, as a safety measure. In rare cases, when all the initiates have died, a new “batch” will be brought in immediately.
For the Artium initiate, daily life is much the same as the regular initiative, except they are tutored by the Artium Magister him/herself. When the Artium initiates undergo their pilgrimage, they are expected to bring back something exceptional. they are scryed upon every day when the sun is at its peak. In case of their death, a new Artium initiate will be found immediately.
location
Iaun vanië
The order has a monastery at the edge of the forest, south of Pelors peak. It is less of a monastery and more like a small fortress. The outer layer of the wall is entirely made of moonstone, inlaid with silver thread, which depicts the story of Corellon, chronologically from the east side of the gate, to the west side. In every depiction of Corellon, a star sapphire is set in place of his eyes. The walls are 30 ft. high, the gate, 1. ft. thick, masterfully crafted and enchanted oak, inlaid with silver thread, depicting Corellon in profile, one with his longsword, the other with his longbow, in his eyes are once again star sapphires. above the gate, the crest of the order is engraved. sapphires in the background and a silver star in the middle. inside the walls of the monastery, there are no temples, but instead a painter's quarters, a theatre, a house of crafts, and training grounds for both magic and martial arts, which are all places of worship. other than that there are living quarters, a mess hall, a well, a stables, a library a barracks and a garden.
