Base Class: Ranger
Between the bastions of civilization lies long tracks of often dangerous roads. Those who defend travelers along these roads, keeping the peace on the outskirts of civilization are called Roadwardens. Whether officially appointed, a self appointed vigilante, or a brigand who has laid claim to a stretch of road, these dangerous combatants combine the ferocity of nature with the sophistication of technology.
Fire and Steel
Relying on the deadly pistol, the Roadwarden makes sure that whether they are following up on a devastating melee attack, or firing from range with two pistols, they always have the upper hand. You can treat pistols as if they had the Light property, in addition being within 5 feet of a hostile creature doesn’t impose disadvantage on your ranged attack rolls.
You gain proficiency with Tinker's Tools.
You may use the tools to craft ammunition, repair damaged firearms, or possibly draft and create new ones.
If you have this feature you cannot benefit from the Gunner feat.
Paper Cartridges
The Roadwarden knows that the most dangerous thing they can encounter is an empty pistol. The Roadwarden stocks specialized cartridges that make reloading their weapon easier. When choosing to take an Attack Action, Bonus Action, or Reaction. You may make a Sleight of Hand check (DC15) to ignore the Loading property on a pistol even if you've already attacked with the weapon.
If you don't have proficiency in Sleight of Hand you gain it.
Protective Presence
The Roadwarden's presence acts as a buffer for all manner of creature. When a creature you can see attacks a target that is within 30 feet of you, you can take a Reaction to make an attack with a pistol. If you hit, deal 1d10 damage and you impose Disadvantage on the triggering attack roll and all other attack rolls made by the creature against the target until the start of your next turn if you remain within 30 feet of the target.
In addition, if you take the Attack Action with a pistol, you may choose to use the Nick mastery instead of the Vex mastery.
Down the Barrel
Staring down the barrel of your gun is enough to shake even the sturdiest of creatures. You no longer have to make sleight of hand checks to ignore the loading feature of pistols. In addition, the last target you hit with your pistol on your turn makes a Wisdom saving throw with a DC equal to your level + your proficiency + your Wisdom or Charisma modifier which ever is higher, if it fails you gain resistance to all damage caused by that creature until the start of your next turn.
