Ranger
Base Class: Ranger

You wait patiently to hook your prey and, once you do, you won't let them go. As an Angler, whether on land or water, you take advantage of your position and use it to determine how your foes move in a war of attrition.

Level 3: Fish On

Whenever you hit a creature with a ranged Attack Roll, an invisible line hooks the target and tethers yourself to it. A creature with Truesight or that is benefiting from the See Invisibility spell sees the line as a fog-like and ethereal tether. You can only have one tethered creature at a time.

If the tethered creature uses magic that enables planar travel, such as the Plane Shift spell, or is beyond 500 feet of you, the tether is severed.

Once per turn, as a Bonus Action, if the hooked creature is Medium or smaller, you can force it to make a Strength Saving Throw against your spell save DC. On a failed save, you reel the creature in your direction to an amount of half the distance between both of you.

Level 3: Angler Spells

When you reach a Ranger level specified in the Angler Spells table, you thereafter always have the listed spells prepared and they don't count against the number of spells you can prepare each day.

If you gain access to a Spell that doesn't appear on the Ranger Spell List, it is nonetheless a Ranger spell for you.

Angler Spells
Ranger Level Spells
3 Fog Cloud
5 Gust of Wind
9 Water Breathing
13 Control Water
17 Control Winds

Level 7: Bobber Balance

Your Fish On feature can now affect Large creatures.

Additionally, whenever a Large or smaller hooked creature tries to move away from you while tethered, it has to make a Dexterity Saving Throw against your spell save DC. On a falied save, the tethered creature falls Prone.

Level 11: Cut the Line

Your Fish On and Bobber Balance features can now affect Huge creatures.

Additionally, as a Magic action, you can purposefully release the hook from a Huge or smaller creature that you currently have tethered and try to wrangle it with the spectral line. The creature must make a Dexterity Saving Throw against you spell save DC. On a falied save the creature is Restrained until the end of your next turn.

When you use this feature, the tether you had is severed and you must hit the target with a new ranged Attack Roll to hook it once more.

Level 15: Chum the Waters

Your Fish On, Bobber Balance and Cut the Line features can now affect Gargantuan creatures.

Additionally, if the creature you currently have hooked and tethered to yourself is also marked by your Hunter's Mark spell, it has Disadvantage on any Saving Throw imposed by your Fish On, Bobber Balance and Cut the Line features.
