Base Class: Rogue
In the shadowed corners of the world, where the line between life and death blurs, the Revenant Hunters walk their grim path. These rare souls have died and returned, bound by the spectral chains of unresolved vengeance and relentless duty. Each resurrection hardens their resolve and sharpens their skills, making them unparalleled trackers and killers of those who escape the justice of both mortal and divine laws.
As a Revenant Hunter, you are a harbinger of retribution. Death itself has left its mark upon you, allowing you to emerge from each demise colder, more ruthless, and more determined. Your eyes, having seen the abyss, pierce through lies and shadows, finding truths long buried and targets well hidden. Your very presence is unsettling, a reminder to others of their own mortality and the debts they might owe.
Cycles of Reckoning
In each new life, you recall skills and tactics from your past incarnations. After each long rest, choose one skill or tool proficiency that reflects your accumulated military and mercenary experience. You can change this proficiency after each long rest, representing different aspects of your expertise that surface as needed.
Bound by Vengeance
Your repeated returns from death have imbued you with several supernatural resistances and abilities, fitting your relentless pursuit of targets:
- Advantage on saving throws against being frightened or charmed, as your purpose cannot be easily shaken.
- Resistance to necrotic damage, reflecting your familiarity with the brink of death.
- You don’t need to sleep and instead enter a vigilant state for 4 hours during a long rest, in which you remain alert to danger.
Wrath of the Fallen
You have harnessed your unresolved rage and regret into a formidable weapon. Immediately after you use your Cunning Action you can make a ranged spell attack against a creature within 30 feet of you, provided you haven’t used your Sneak Attack this turn. You are proficient with this attack, and you add your Dexterity modifier to its attack and damage rolls. A creature hit by this attack takes necrotic damage equal to your Sneak Attack bonus. This uses your Sneak Attack for the turn.
Whispered Secrets of the Fallen
Using your connection to the cycle of death and rebirth, you can cast speak with dead without expending a spell slot or needing material components. After speaking with the dead, you temporarily acquire knowledge from the spirits that aids in your quests.
d3 Capability
1 You learn how to speak, read, and write one language of your choice
2 You Gain one skill or tool proficiency of your choice
3 You gain proficiency with one saving throw of your choice
After you cast the spell with this feature, you can’t do so again until you finish a short or long rest.
Audience with Death
Your frequent brushes with death allow you to gain insights from the threshold of the afterlife. You have advantage on death saving throws, and whenever you make a successful death saving throw, you spirit can ask an entity of death a question that can be answered with "yes," "no," or "unknown." The entity answers truthfully, using the knowledge of all those who have died.
Cycle of Retribution
Like a ghost, you have the ability to slip in and out of the Ethereal Plane. Each day, as a bonus action, you can phase into a spectral state that mirrors the border between life and death. For the next minute, you can teleport to an unoccupied space within 30 feet of you. You don't need to see that space to teleport to it, but your teleportation fails, wasting your bonus action, if you attempt to teleport through magical force that is medium or larger, such as a wall of force. If you appear in a space occupied by another creature or filled by an object, you are immediately shunted to the nearest unoccupied space that you can occupy and take force damage equal to twice the number of feet you are shunted. You can use this ability each day a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus. This ability refreshes at dawn.
