The Shadowbrand’s Pact

To take the Shadowbrand is to pledge loyalty to an unseen patron. No one knows whether it is an ancient conspiracy, a forgotten god, or a sentient darkness—but those who bear its mark are never truly alone. Those who accept this mark find themselves shrouded in mystery, their presence slipping between the seams of reality, ever watched by something beyond mortal understanding.

Marked by Darkness

You bear the mark of the Shadowbrand, a sigil that manifests on your body in an ever-shifting pattern of shadow and ink. This mark grants you the following benefits:

  • Umbral Stride: When you are in dim light or darkness, you can use misty step as a bonus action.

  • Eyes of the Veil: You gain darkvision out to 60 feet. If you already have darkvision, its range increases by 30 feet.

  • Whispering Presence: You can cast Thaumaturgy at will, but only to create unsettling whispers or brief distortions of shadow within 30 feet of you.

Veil of the Unseen

The shadows coil around you, protecting you from harm and making you difficult to pin down. As a reaction when you are hit by an attack, you can force the attacker to reroll the attack roll. If the attack still hits, you gain resistance to the damage it deals. Once you use this ability, you must finish a short or long rest before using it again.

Additionally, when you take the Hide action in dim light or darkness, creatures have disadvantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks to detect you.

Eclipsed Blade

You have learned to strike from the darkness with deadly precision. When you hit a creature that cannot see you with a melee weapon attack, you can roll one additional Sneak Attack die.

Additionally, you can use your bonus action to momentarily wrap your weapon in shadow, causing it to ignore resistance to nonmagical damage until the end of your turn.

Herald of the Hidden One

Your bond with the unseen patron has deepened, granting you near-total control over darkness itself. You gain the following abilities:

  • One with the Void: As an action, you can become intangible for 1 minute. While intangible, you can move through creatures and objects as if they were difficult terrain. You take 1d10 force damage if you end your turn inside an object. You can use this ability once per long rest.

  • Shadow’s Grasp: When you hit a creature with a Sneak Attack while in dim light or darkness, the creature must make a Wisdom saving throw (DC 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Dexterity modifier) or be frightened of you for 1 minute. The creature can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on a success.
