The Saber Servant is a subclass of the Paladin, representing those who wield divine blades in pursuit of justice, honor, and destiny. As a Saber Servant, you gain unmatched proficiency in swordplay, enhanced mobility, and the ability to invoke the legendary Noble Phantasms of heroic figures such as King Arthur, Siegfried, and Charlemagne.

Your unwavering resolve and disciplined combat style allow you to stand at the forefront of battle, cutting through foes with supernatural precision while shielding your allies from harm.

Level 3: Saber’s Arsenal

At 3rd level, you gain proficiency with longswords, greatswords, and rapiers, if you do not already have them. Additionally, when wielding a sword, your weapon attacks count as magical for overcoming resistances.

Level 3: Chosen Blade

At 3rd level, you select a sword as your Chosen Blade, which serves as your conduit for power. While wielding your Chosen Blade, you gain the following benefits:

  • You may use your Charisma modifier instead of Strength or Dexterity for attack and damage rolls.

  • Once per turn, when you hit a creature with a melee attack, you can deal an additional 1d8 radiant damage.

  • You may summon your Chosen Blade to your hand as a bonus action, even across dimensions.

  • You can cast Identify at will, but only on swords.

 

Greatsword

You chose the Greatsword as your Chosen Blade, feature abilities apply to this type of weapon specifically. Once your chosen weapon is selected you are attuned to this one weapon and it will come to you when called through the use of the Summon Chosen Blade Bonus Action. The Chosen Blade is restricted to the blade type and most current one attuned to, the only way to summon a new blade is to break the attunement to the current one, and form a new one.

Katana

You chose the Katana as your Chosen Blade, feature abilities apply to this type of weapon specifically. Once your chosen weapon is selected you are attuned to this one weapon and it will come to you when called through the use of the Summon Chosen Blade Bonus Action. The Chosen Blade is restricted to the blade type and most current one attuned to, the only way to summon a new blade is to break the attunement to the current one and form a new one.

Longsword

You chose the Longsword as your Chosen Blade, feature abilities apply to this type of weapon specifically. Level 3: Noble Phantasms

Excalibur – The Sword of Promised Victory (Artoria Pendragon)

Usage: 2/Long Rest
Effect: You unleash a beam of pure light, striking all creatures in a 60-foot line, 10 feet wide. Each creature must make a Dexterity saving throw (DC = 8 + proficiency + Charisma modifier), taking 6d10 radiant damage on a failure or half as much on a success. Undead and fiends take maximum damage.

 

Balmung – Phantasmal Greatsword of the Sky (Siegfried)

Usage: 1/Short Rest
Effect: You swing your greatsword in a 30-foot cone, sending out a devastating wave of magical energy. All creatures in the area must make a Dexterity saving throw (DC = 8 + proficiency + Charisma modifier), taking 5d10 force damage on a failed save or half as much on a success. Dragon-type creatures take double damage.

Joyeuse – The Holy Blade of Charlemagne (Charlemagne)

Usage: Passive / 1/Long Rest
Effect: Your sword resonates with divine power, granting a +2 bonus to attack and damage rolls. Additionally, once per long rest, you may enter a state of exaltation for one minute, during which your attacks critically strike on a 18-20, and you emit bright light in a 30-foot radius, dispelling magical darkness.

Higekiri – The Demon-Slaying Blade (Kiso Yoshinaka)

Usage: 2/Long Rest
Effect: When making a melee attack against a fiend, undead, or celestial, you may invoke Higekiri’s power to make the attack automatically critically strike. Additionally, creatures affected by this attack cannot regenerate hit points for 1 minute.

Clarent – The Rebellious Sword (Mordred)

Usage: 1/Short Rest
Effect: Your blade surges with crimson lightning, allowing you to perform a devastating burst slash. As an action, you unleash a 10-foot radius explosion centered on you, dealing 6d8 lightning damage to all creatures in range. Additionally, you gain temporary hit points equal to half the total damage dealt.

Kogarasumaru – The Crescent Blade (Hattori Takeo)

Usage: 1/Day

Effect: When an enemy makes an attack against you, you can use your reaction to perfectly counterattack, deflecting their strike and reflecting 100% of the incoming damage back at them. This effect works against melee, ranged, and spell attacks.

Balmung – Phantasmal Greatsword of the Sky

The Saber Servant of Black during the search for the Greater Grail in a world far off into the multiverse is Sigfried, known as The Tenacious Dragon Slayer. A prince in his homeland he is very well met with battle experience, and adorned with the Legendary Weapon Balmung, his and the legend of the sword surrounds his slaying of the dragon Fafnir and bathing in his blood.

The Noble Phantasm grants the reward for slaying the great dragon Fafnir, the user's body is bathed in its blood, granting them near-impenetrable defense. This manifests as draconic resilience that greatly enhances durability.

Balmung Passive Benefits:

  • You gain resistance to non-magical bludgeoning, piercing, and slashing damage at all times.
  • You are immune to fire damage due to the dragon’s lingering essence protecting you.
  • Your AC increases by +1, even if you are not wearing armor

Clarent – The Rebellious Sword

The Saber Servant of Red who fought in the war for the Greater Holy Grail in a far-off place in the vast multiverse, is known as The Knight of Treachery, once adorned with a high military status and even inducted into The Knights of the Round Table. Mordred being the unnatural child of King Arturia and Morgana bore the ambitions of a king and longed to be the successor to The King of Knights, her unparalleled might and aggression gave her the wartime moniker of the Guerilla Knight. Mordred wielded the Clarent an ornate, sparkling white silver sword adorned with splendid decorations, acting as a symbol of kingship denoting the right of succession of the throne. It is a treasured sword that is worth equal to, if not exceeding, Caliburn, that amplifies the king's authority. It is Also the Namesake and primary feature of this Noble Phantasm.

Clarent - The Sword of Treachery (Passive)

Users greatsword embodies Clarent, a blade of immense power, stolen from the armory of King Arthur. While wielding Clarent, the user gains a +2 bonus to attack and damage rolls and their critical hit range increases to 17-20.

Excalibur – The Sword of Promised Victory

The Saber Servant of the fourth and fifth Holy Grail War which took place in the far-off multiverse, is the noble King of Britain Arturia Pendragon, the basis for the legend of King Arthur. Her legendary weapon of choice is The Holy Sword Excalibur, the Sword of Prophecy shows Arturia's exemplary Longsword skills and battle tactics mastery.

 

Divine Radiance of the Once and Future King (Passive)

While possessing Excalibur as a Noble Phantasm, the legendary holy sword of King Arthur, you are imbued with its divine radiance, granting the following effects:

  • Blessing of the Lady of the Lake: You gain a +3 bonus to attack and damage rolls with Excalibur, and its attacks count as magical for the purpose of overcoming resistances.
  • Holy Authority: You emanate an aura of kingship in a 10-foot radius. Allies within this aura gain advantage on saving throws against fear and charm effects, and enemies of evil alignment suffer disadvantage on saving throws against your spells and abilities.

Higekiri – The Demon-Slaying Blade

The Saber Servant who participated in The Grand Orders Waxing Moon Ritual also known as "The greatest of Holy Grail Wars"  in a far off multiverse is known as The Infinite Shogun. Yoshinaka Kiso was well renown as a hero of the Genpei war, ultimately resulting in his achieving the title of Asahi Shogun.

 

Passive: Higekiri – The Demon-Slaying Blade:
Forged as a weapon of divine justice, Higekiri is a blade renowned for its ability to eradicate supernatural threats, particularly demons, spirits, and undead. While wielding Higekiri, you gain the following benefits:

  • Cleansing Strikes: When you reduce a fiend or undead to 0 HP, you may immediately regain temporary hit points equal to half your level + your Charisma modifier.
  • Ethereal Hunter: You can see invisible creatures and into the Ethereal Plane up to a range of 60 feet.
  • Mana Overflow: The over-abundant mana concentration from this Noble Phantasm allows for a flight speed of 30 feet.

 

Joyeuse – The Holy Blade of Charlemagne

The Saber Servant who served in pursuing the Greater Holy Grail is known as Charles the Great, a young naive young man who leads the Twelve Paladins of Charlemagne. The leader of a vivacious group bearing his namesake, he achieved much success in his endeavors to unite multiple nations under the Title of Western Europe.

 

Radiant Emperor’s Legacy (Passive)

While wielding Joyeuse, the legendary sword of Emperor Charlemagne, you are infused with the brilliance of a true ruler, gaining the following benefits:

  • Shining Blade of the Twelve Paladins: You gain a +2 bonus to attack and damage rolls with Joyeuse, and its attacks deal an additional 1d8 radiant damage. Against creatures of evil alignment, this extra damage increases to 2d8.
  • Glorious Aura of the Holy Emperor: You emanate an aura of inspiration in a 15-foot radius. Allies within this aura gain +2 to AC, and they cannot be frightened while in its presence.

Kogarasumaru – The Crescent Blades

The Saber Servant who served in the search for the Greater Holy Grail that took in a far-off place in the multiverse is known as a Gaurd of the Imperial Mausoleums Saburobe. He was a Huge man known for his dual wielding of katanas and impeccable martial arts skills. His resilience, helped him fight alone to his last breath, and his fighting style and tenacity marked him a great hero as his Noble Phantasm reflects.

Twin Fangs of the Moonlit War God (Passive)

While wielding Kogarasumaru, the dual crescent blades of unparalleled sharpness and grace, you embody the fluid and deadly nature of a true samurai, gaining the following benefits:

  • Blades of the Crescent Moon: When wielding Kogarasumaru, your melee attacks ignore resistance to slashing damage and critically strike on a 17-20.
  • Dancing Crescent Style: When you take the Attack action, you may make one additional weapon attack as part of that action.
  • Peerless Reflexes: If an enemy misses you with a melee attack, you may use your reaction to make a single attack against them.

Level 7: Blade of Resolve

Your sheer determination makes it almost impossible for you to be disarmed or restrained in combat.

  • You have advantage on Strength and Charisma saving throws.
  • You cannot be disarmed while wielding a sword unless incapacitated.
  • If you are restrained or grappled, you may spend 5 points from your Lay on Hands to break free immediately.

Level 15: Indomitable Knightly Spirit

Your will is a force that defies even death itself.

  • When reduced to 0 HP, you can make a Charisma saving throw (DC 15). On success, you instead drop to 1 HP and immediately regain half your Lay on Hands pool as temporary hit points. This can only be used once per long rest.
  • If you fail a death saving throw, you may choose to reroll it once per long rest.

Level 20: True Sword of the King

At the pinnacle of your power, your sword becomes the embodiment of legend.

  • You can invoke your Noble Phantasms once without expending a use per long rest.
  • Your sword is considered a +3 legendary weapon that deals an extra 2d10 radiant damage.
  • Increase Paladin Spell Attacks +3.
  • You may cast Holy Aura once per long rest without using a spell slot.
