Paladin
Base Class: Paladin

This Oath is about embracing silence as a force of balance. The Paladin who takes this Oath seeks to bring stillness to the chaos of the world, through non-intervention or the quieting of conflict. They value the power of absence—sometimes silence speaks louder than words, and sometimes inaction is the truest form of strength. These Paladins are about keeping the balance, not through action, but through choosing when to act, when to withdraw, and when to simply allow things to be.

They may be tied to an ancient order of monastics or philosophers who teach that the loudest voices often carry the most harm. Their philosophy is one of listening, observing, and restoring harmony through subtlety and restraint.

  • Restraint over Action: Sometimes, the greatest power lies in withholding. Do not act unless it is necessary, and do not speak unless your words carry meaning. Know when to stand silent and when to speak.
  • Balance is the True Law: The world is filled with imbalance—chaos, noise, and endless conflict. Your duty is not to destroy the forces of disruption, but to restore the equilibrium. Silence is the counterpoint to the chaos of the world.
  • Harmonize, Do Not Dominate: Use your power to calm, not to control. Seek to influence others not through force, but through presence, wisdom, and example.
  • Do Not Seek Glory: The echo of your deeds should be faint. Your legacy is the peace you create, not the stories of your triumphs.

Paladins who follow the Oath of the Echoing Silence are calm, introspective individuals. They might seek to avoid conflict or resolution through words, instead choosing to let events play out and focusing on the power of quietude and stillness. Their presence can often be unsettling to others, as they don’t speak much or intervene in battles unless absolutely necessary.

While some might view them as distant or aloof, they are anything but indifferent—they know that some battles are won with silence rather than with the swing of a sword. They might meditate for long hours, contemplating their next move, and they could be seen as monastic figures or traveling philosophers. Their loyalty is to the balance of the world, not to any one king or kingdom.

Echoing Strike

  • Silent Blow: When you make a melee weapon attack, you can choose to deal additional necrotic or psychic damage (your choice). The target of the strike feels the weight of your silence, as if the world has grown quieter around them. This strike causes the target to suffer disadvantage on their next attack roll or ability check.
  • Aura of Quiet: You exude a calming aura that dampens noise around you. Enemies within 10 feet of you have disadvantage on saving throws against being frightened, and allies within the aura gain advantage on saving throws against being charmed or frightened. The aura grows to 30 feet at level 18.

Unspoken Resolve

  • Stillness of Mind: You can use your Channel Divinity to grant yourself or an ally within 30 feet the ability to be immune to fear and charm for 1 minute. In this moment of profound inner silence, the target’s mind becomes impenetrable, cutting off all external influence.
  • Veil of Silence: You can cast Silence at will, without expending a spell slot. The spell's duration is always 1 minute, and it can be used a number of times equal to your Wisdom modifier (minimum of 1). You regain all expended uses after a long rest.

Voice of the Void

  • Subtle Manipulation: As a bonus action, you can project an aura of emotional stillness in a 30-foot radius around you. Enemies within the area are unable to take reactions for 1 minute. During this time, the affected enemies feel a sudden sense of hesitation, as if the world has grown eerily still, giving your allies the chance to act freely.
  • Transcendence of Silence: You can use an action to enter a state of transcendence, where you do not speak or make noise for 10 minutes. During this time, you regain hit points equal to your Paladin level, and your next attack deals double damage. However, you cannot take any action other than movement during this time. The more silence you endure, the more powerful your strikes become.

Eternal Quiet

Echo of Eternity: Once per long rest, you can use your action to create an area of profound silence in a 60-foot radius around you that lasts for 1 hour. During this time, all creatures within the area are unable to speak, cast spells that require verbal components, or communicate in any way. This unnatural quiet stills time itself, causing all movement to be slowed by half, and no sound—whether in the form of speech, combat, or other noises—can be heard. The effect cannot be dispelled by any means. Creatures within the radius can still perceive one another, but all forms of communication are rendered impossible.
