Warlock
Base Class: Warlock

Sometimes a person finds themselves so obsessed with pursuing a goal - defeating a specific enemy, exacting revenge, overthrowing a government, etc. - that they reach deep inside themselves to find the power to accomplish that goal. This transaction does not come without a cost - the Patron of Self empowers the user at the cost of the person's soul, bit by bit. For many of their abilities, they will accumulate Corruption points. Each time one of these points is earned, they must roll a d20 - if it is equal to or less than their Corruption level, they transform into a demon (see table below); if it is above nothing happens. The DM controls this demon unless the character manages to gain control, which happens via re-rolling their Corruption check every round. Once the character gains control, the transformation ends in 1d4 rounds (but they keep rolling each round to see if they can control it).

Transform Types (by level)

1 - Quasit, 3 - Shadow Demon, 5 - Balgura, 8 - Hezrou, 12 - Nelfenshee, 15 - Marility, 17 - Glabrezou, 19 - Balor

Corruption

The more powerful of your abilities will cause you to gain corruption points. Each time you receive a new corruption point (once per time - if you receive 3 all at once it counts as once) roll a d20. If you roll above your corruption total, nothing happens. If you roll equal to or below, you transform into a demon (based on your level) on the transformation track. For the first round, you do not control this entity (it is controlled by the DM and is hostile). Beginning on your next turn you roll another d20; if you succeed this corruption roll you gain control and the effect ends in 1d4 rounds, otherwise you continue to not have control. You begin the game with 1 corruption point and may gain or lose corruption points depending on your actions, as determined by the DM. If you acquire power at the cost of yourself, gain a corruption point; if you progress in your ultimate goal lose a corruption point.

Transformation Types

You lose control and polymorph into a demon against your will.

3rd

4th

Hate Incarnate

You pour your hatred, drive, and will into a magical weapon of any type. You are proficient wielding this weapon that appears as crimson and black smoke with a solid center mass. You may dismiss/re-summon this weapon at will. You may switch the weapon type once per short rest. If the weapon leaves your hands, it is automatically dismissed. Summoning it is a Bonus Action. You are not allowed to wield any other weapons other than those wielded by your arch enemy (as determined by DM - goals can change over a campaign). This weapon grants you access to all 'Pact of the Blade' invocations.

Burning the Candle at Both Ends

Permanently (not even wish) lose your choice of:

-2 from any stat, -1 from proficiency, proficiency in a skill, or 15 from max HP to cause any die to be re-rolled.

At 10th level, you cause that die to either succeed or fail as you wish.

Tunnel Vision

If you would fail a saving throw, choose to succeed instead. Lose proficiency in that saving throw until your next long rest. If you are not proficient in that saving throw, choose one you are proficient in to lose instead.

Still Standing

Through sheer will, you can prevent a debilitating amount of damage to yourself.

Reaction (1/Long Rest): If you would be dealt an amount of damage equal to half or more of your Max HP, instead gain resistance against all of the damage dealt (take half instead). You may not take an action the following round due to fatigue from this feat. Gain one corruption point.

Martyrdom

If an attack or effect would cause you to lose your last death saving throw, instead stabilize at 1HP (no choice). Each time this ability is used, lose one from your max number of death saving throws, as you inevitably draw another step closer to death. Gain 2 corruption.

Dredging the Depths

You may cast an additional spell beyond what you normally can do. Additionally it may be heightened (all the way to 9th level). After casting this spell, you lose access to all Warlock spells and abilities for 24 hours (starting immediately) plus an additional 24 hours for each level it was heightened. Gain 3 corruption points.

Inner Demons

(1/Long Rest) You may willingly transform into your demonic form for 1d10 rounds. You retain control this entire time. Gain 5 Corruption points.
