Base Class: Artificer

A society produces its most, and most skilled, artificers during times of intense conflict. The Drone Operator is no exception. Their ever-expanding arsenal is designed to tackle the most formidable arcane landscapes with a suite of features that prevent scrying, intercept projectiles, and interrupt spell-casting. They deal in information, espionage, and counter-intelligence. Drone Operators come equipped with their own arcane jamming armor, buffs to the homunculus servant artificer infusion, and more.

3rd-level Drone Operator feature

You gain proficiency with cartographer's tools. If you already have this tool proficiency, you gain proficiency with one other type of artisan’s tools of your choice.

Arcane Jammer

3rd-level Drone Operator feature

Your counter-intelligence pursuits have led to the construction of your own Arcane Jammer. As an action, you can turn a suit of armor you are wearing into this Arcane Jammer, provided you have cartographer's tools in hand.

You gain the following benefits while wearing this armor:

  • Magical scrying, including looking through the eyes of a familiar or similar type of creature/construct, is scrambled within 60 feet of the Arcane Jammer. The Drone Operator is immune to this effect, and can choose any allies to extend this immunity to.
  • At higher levels, the Arcane Jammer blocks the connection between spellcasters and summoned creatures, preventing magical control of any summon with a CR less than your artificer level divided by 4, rounded down.
  • You can use the Arcane Jammer as a spellcasting focus for your artificer spells.
  • The Arcane Jammer attaches to you and can’t be removed against your will. It also expands to cover your entire body, although you can retract or deploy the helmet as a bonus action. The armor replaces any missing limbs, functioning identically to a limb it replaces.
  • You can doff or don the armor as an action.

The armor continues to be Arcane Jammer until you don another suit of armor or you die, though anyone else who wears it must be proficient in cartographer's tools to gain its benefits.

Drone

3rd-level Drone Operator feature

You can may utilize the Homunculus Servant Artificer Infusion without the necessary components. When you do so, choose one of the following drone models: Bomber or Infiltrator.

Each model includes a special feature. When you use this feature, you can use your Intelligence modifier where applicable, instead of Strength or Dexterity.

You can change the drone's model whenever you finish a short or long rest, provided you have cartographer's tools in hand.

Bomber

You design your drone to dive bomb in conflict. It has the following features:

Faster Delivery. Your homunculus servant's speed is doubled.

Explosive Ending. Your homunculus servant gains a new action - Explosive Ending. Upon activating Explosive Ending, each creature within a 15 foot radius must succeed on a Dexterity Saving Throw against your spell save DC or take a number of d6s equal to your 1/2 of your artificer level fire damage and be knocked prone. On a successful save, the target takes half damage and is not knocked prone. If the homunculus servant is destroyed in this way, it can be re-summoned over the course of 10 minutes by consuming a first level spell slot.

Infiltrator

You customize your drone for subtle undertakings. It has the following features:

Counterintel. Friendly creatures gain the ability to see within 60 feet of the drone's location as if they had dark vision. As an action, the infiltrator drone can send out a surveying pulse. Any creature within 60 feet must succeed on an intelligence saving throw against your artificer spell save DC or become revealed. Revealed creatures are no longer invisible and automatically fail stealth checks until the drone's next turn. This action may be used a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, recharging on a long rest.

Aim Assist. As an action, this drone may target a creature with Aim Assist. The targeted creature must succeed on an intelligence saving throw against your artificer spell save DC or become marked until the start of the drone's next turn. Attacks against creatures marked this way have advantage. As an action, the Drone Operator may activate Aim Assist on their turn, allowing for two targets to become marked.

Dampening Rotors. This drone has advantage on Dexterity (Stealth) checks.

Interference

5th-level Drone Operator feature

You may use either your reaction or your drone's reaction to add your Intelligence Modifier to your Armor Class or to a Saving Throw when targeted by a spell.

Multi-Drone Operator

9th-level Drone Operator feature

When you use the homunculus servant Artificer Infusion, you may summon two servants instead of one. Choose which model (infiltrator or bomber) independently.

Perfected Interference

15th-level Drone Operator feature

Your Arcane Jammer gains additional benefits.

Ranged attacks against friendly targets within 10 feet of drones have disadvantage as long as that drone is within 60 feet of the Arcane Jammer.

Allies within 60 feet of the Arcane Jammer have advantage on saving throws against spells. If a successful saving throw would normally cause an ally to take half damage, they additionally have resistance to that damage until the start of their turn.
