Base Class: Artificer
Bound by craft, guided by souls.
Some artificers look to clockwork and alchemy to fuel their creations, but Spiritwrights tap into the lingering echoes of the departed. By forging pacts with wandering souls and binding them into crafted relics, these artificers merge the mystical and the mechanical, wielding the power of the afterlife itself.
Whether viewed as benevolent mediums or eerie necromantic tinkerers, Spiritwrights walk the line between life and death, forging wonders that whisper with the voices of those who came before.
Tools of the Departed
You gain proficiency with calligrapher’s supplies and one of the following: weaver’s tools, glassblower’s tools, or jeweler’s tools. When you use these tools to craft an item, you can perform a short ritual to infuse it with a minor spirit, allowing it to whisper faintly to you and shed dim light in a 5-foot radius.
Additionally, you learn the Thaumaturgy cantrip.
You can have only one Soulbound Relic at a time. Creating a new one causes the old one to fade.
soulbound Sentinel
A small construct or trinket that contains a watching spirit. When you or a creature holding it is surprised, the spirit warns them, allowing them to act normally on their first turn of comba
Warden's lantern
This item sheds bright light in a 20-foot radius and dim light for another 20 feet. As a bonus action, you can cause a spectral figure to appear within the light for 1 minute. You and allies within the light gain advantage on saving throws against being frightened or charmed.
Whispering Weapon
A weapon imbued with a guiding spirit. Attacks made with it score a critical hit on a 19-20 and deal extra damage equal to your Intelligence modifier.
Level 5: Ethereal Armory
5th-level Spiritwright feature
You learn to weave spiritual essence into your creations. Whenever you infuse an item using your Infuse Item feature, you can choose for the magic to be partially spectral. While wielding or wearing one of your infused items, a creature can see invisible entities within 30 feet and has resistance to necrotic damage. This only applies to one item.
Additionally, when you reduce a hostile creature to 0 hit points, you can immediately reclaim a fragment of its spirit to restore one of your infused items if you have expended a use of Infuse Item. This can only be done a number of times equal to half your intelligence modifier (rounded down) at a minimum of 1.
Level 9: Binding Echoes
9th-level Spiritwright feature
Your grasp on souls strengthens, letting you bind them for greater effects:
When you create a Soulbound Relic, you can maintain up to two relics at a time instead of one.
As a reaction when an ally within 30 feet takes damage, you can transfer half the damage to a Soulbound Relic instead, causing it to shatter in a burst of spectral energy (dealing force damage equal to your Intelligence modifier to creatures within 5 feet of the relic).
Master of the Beyond
15th-level Spiritwright feature
Your connection to souls reaches its peak, allowing you to forge powerful pacts:
Soulforge Infusion – When you create a magic item using The Right Tool for the Job feature, you can make it permanently magical instead of temporary if it contains a bound spirit. The item retains its magic even if you die.
Spirit Conduit – As a bonus action, you can summon an ethereal guardian from a destroyed Soulbound Relic for 1 minute. This guardian is a Specter (MM, p. 279) that follows your commands and adds your Intelligence modifier to its attack and damage rolls.
