Paladin
Base Class: Paladin

The Oath of Liberty calls Paladins to use their power to stand with the oppressed against tyranny. It is not enough to enact justice but to see that justice is fairly applied to all. Paladins of Liberty are often despised by those who have seized power through nefarious means. Seen as threats to the established order, Paladins who swear this oath are often persecuted.

Tenants of Liberty

Though their specific Oath and cause may vary, all Paladins who swear an Oath of Liberty uphold the following Tenants:

Equality

Birth, wealth, and status do not matter. Treat everyone you meet equally regardless of status or influence.

Equity

All people should have access to basic needs, regardless of birth, status, or wealth.

Freedom

Bring freedom to the oppressed and justice to the oppressor.

Channel Divinity

Swearing this Oath grants the following Channel Divinities:

Admonish The Tyrannical
When a creature you can see within 30 feet deals damage to another creature, you can use your reaction to rebuke it. That creature takes a number of d8s of radiant damage equal to your proficiency bonus, and for 1 minute, or until you lose concentration, that creature has disadvantage on any attack roll that doesn't target you. Additionally, any time they hit a creature other than you during this time, they take the initial damage again.

Shield the Meek
As a bonus action, you can grant a creature you can see within 30 feet, other than yourself, a bonus to its Armor Class equal to your Charisma Modifier (minimum of +1) for 1 minute.

Liberty Spells

The spells below become Paladin spells for you at the levels noted in the table below. You always have them prepared, but they don't count against the spells you can prepare each day.

Aura of Defiance

The strength of your convictions protects those who stand alongside you. When creatures of your choice are within your Aura of Protection, they have advantage on saving throws and checks to avoid or end the paralyzed, restrained, grappled, and petrified conditions.

When you reach level 18, creatures are instead immune to these conditions.

Liberator

Your presence is a guiding light for those you defend. As a reaction when a creature within your Aura of Protection fails a saving throw, you can allow them to repeat the saving throw.

Shield of Freedom

As a bonus action, you can transform into an Avatar of divine Liberty, granting the following benefits for the next minute:

  • You gain a flying speed equal to your walking speed.
  • Once per turn when you deal damage to a creature, you can choose one creature (other than yourself) within your Aura of Protection to regain a number of hit points equal to half the damage you just dealt.
  • You can use your Admonish the Tyrannical Channel Divinity as a reaction on each of your turns, without expending a use of your Channel Divinity feature.

Once you use this feature, you must finish a long rest before you can use it again. You can expend a 5th-level spell slot to transform again.
