Sorcerer
Base Class: Sorcerer

Your innate magic comes from the power of elemental air. Many with this power can trace their magic back to a near-death experience caused by the Great Rain, but perhaps you were born during a howling gale so powerful that folk still tell stories of it, or your lineage might include the influence of potent air creatures such as vaati or djinn. Whatever the case, the magic of the storm permeates your being. You are swifter and lighter than most, and the winds can carry you wherever they blow.

Storm sorcerers are invaluable members of a ship's crew. Their magic allows them to exert control over wind and weather in their immediate area. Their abilities also prove useful in repelling attacks by sahuagin, pirates, and other waterborne threats.

Level 3: Storm Spells

When you reach a Sorcerer level specified in the Storm Spells table, you thereafter always have the listed spells prepared.

Storm Spells
Sorcerer Level Spells
3 Fog Cloud, Thunderwave, Shatter, Warding Wind
5 Call Lightning, Wind Wall
7 Storm Sphere, Freedom of Movement
9 Maelstrom, Control Winds

Level 3: Wind Soul

At 3rd level, your affinity with the storm and elemental air manifests with great energy, miraculously reducing your weight, and allowing you to be as light as a feather and swift upon the wind. Your weight is reduced by half (not counting equipment), and you gain these benefits:

  • Your walking speed increases by 5 feet.
  • Anytime you cast a Thunder or Lightning spell of 1st level or higher, you gain a fly speed equal to your walking speed until the end of your current turn. Movement taken with this ability does not provoke opportunity attacks.
  • When you score a critical hit with a spell that deals Thunder or Lightning damage, you may push or pull the target of that spell up to a number of feet equal to 5 x your Charisma modifier.

Level 6: Weathervane

At 6th level, you gain the ability to subtly control the weather around you.

  • If it is raining, you can use an action to cause the rain to stop falling in a 20-foot-radius sphere centered on you. You can end this effect as a bonus action.
  • If it is windy, you can use a bonus action each round to choose the direction that the wind blows in a 100-foot-radius sphere centered on you. The wind blows in that direction until the end of your next turn. This feature doesn’t alter the speed of the wind.

Level 6: Oncoming Storm

The inherent concentration of tempestuous magic flowing through your body now manifests as a constant updraft around you, lifting you off the ground and to the skies.

At 6th level, you gain resistance to Lightning and Thunder damage. Additionally, as a bonus action, you can give yourself a flying speed equal to your walking speed that lasts for 10 minutes, during which you can hover. You can use this bonus action a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, and you regain all expended uses when you finish a long rest.

Level 14: Stirring Squalls

At 14th level, when you cast magic, your body blossoms with swirling air currents, slowing your falls and hindering your enemies.

  • Your walking speed increases by 10 feet, and you may use a reaction to negate damage from falling.
  • Whenever you cast a spell that deals Thunder or Lightning damage, you may choose to push or pull creatures that take damage 10 feet away or towards you.

Level 18: Howling Tempest

At 18th level, you gain several features that showcase your complete embodiment of the storm. The spell Control Weather is added to your list of prepared spells, and you gain the following features:

  • You gain Immunity to Lightning and Thunder damage.
  • When you cast a spell that deals Lightning damage, your next spell that deals Thunder damage will receive a bonus to its damage rolls equal to your Sorcerer level. Conversely, when you cast a damaging Thunder spell, your next damaging Lightning spell will gain a bonus to attack rolls equal to your Charisma modifier.
  • When you activate your flight ability given by Oncoming Storm, up to 8 allies within 20ft of you gain resistance to Lightning and Thunder damage, and a fly speed equal to your walking speed for 10 minutes.
