Barbarian
Base Class: Barbarian

The Path of the Possessed is a haunting journey for barbarians who have been marked by otherworldly entities. When you embrace this path, you invite a powerful spirit to inhabit your body, granting you extraordinary abilities and ferocious strength in battle. This possession enhances your rage, allowing you to channel the essence of the creature within you, whether it be a vengeful spirit, a primal beast, or an ancient deity.

Infernal Personification

Starting at 3rd level, when you enter a rage, you become possessed by an entity that influences your physical appearance and abilities. Choose a type of creature that represents your possession (e.g., a demon, elemental, or mythical beast). Your appearance may change (e.g., glowing eyes, ethereal markings, or claws), and you gain features based on the creature type.

You gain Thaumaturgy as a cantrip as well as Spider Climb (equal to your proficiency modifier) and Alter Self (once per day) as a 2nd Level Spell Slot.

Unholy Resilience

Beginning at 6th level, the spirit within you grants resistance to a damage type associated with your possession (e.g., fire for a fire elemental, necrotic for a demon). Additionally, you gain immunity to being frightened or charmed.  You also gain temporary hit points equal to half of your barbarian level rounded up if you take the beastial fury on your turn.

Infernal Intimidation

When a creature hits you with a melee attack, you can use a reaction to impose disadvantage on all incoming attacks the rest of the round.

Wrath of the Possessed

At 14th level, your connection with the spirit deepens, allowing you to temporarily unleash an overwhelming surge of its power. As a bonus action, you can enter a heightened state for 1 minute, gaining the following benefits:

  • Your movement speed increases by 10 feet.
  • You can make one additional attack when you take the Attack action.
  • You gain temporary hit points equal to your barbarian level at the start of each of your turns.

Possession Manifestation

At 3rd level, when you choose the Path of the Possessed, your connection with the spirit grants you an otherworldly resilience. While you are raging and not wearing armor, your AC increases by 2 as the energy of the spirit manifests as an ethereal protective barrier around you. This effect lasts for the duration of your rage.

  1. Blazing Wrath: You envelop yourself in searing energy. When you make a melee attack during your turn, you deal an additional 1d6 fire damage to your target. This damage is applied once per turn.  This additional damage increases as you gain levels in this class. (2d6 at 6th level, 3d6 at 10th level, 4d6 at 14th level)

  2. Unarmed Fury: Your unarmed strikes become more potent. When you make an unarmed strike, it deals 1d8 bludgeoning damage. This can be used in conjunction with your regular melee attacks.  You also gain temporary hit points equal to half your barbarian level rounded up.

  3. Ethereal Defense: You harness otherworldly agility. When you take the Dash action on your turn, you ignore difficult terrain for the rest of that turn and gain an extra 10 feet of movement speed. Additionally, opportunity attacks against you have disadvantage for the duration of your movement.
