Base Class: Monk
Monks of the Way of Tai Ki are practitioners of the ancient art of Tai Ki, which involves a sequence of precise, fluid movements coupled with deep breathing to facilitate a strong mind-body connection. These monks prepare for battle by engaging in a daily ritual of Tai Ki that allows them to channel ki energy more effectively. As a result, they are able to absorb damage more easily and better negate mind-altering magical effects.
State of Unification
The ultimate goal of Tai Ki is to harness the mystical force of ki to unify the relationship between your mind and body, becoming a more whole person capable of amazing feats of strength and will. Performing Tai Ki allows you to enter this unique state of being that grows stronger with continued use.
Starting when you choose this tradition at 3rd level, you can enter into an induced state of Unification by spending at least 20 minutes of uninterrupted time performing Tai Ki. This Unification lasts for 12 hours but ends early if you are unconscious.
Unified Fortitude
3rd-Level Way of Tai Ki Feature
At 3rd level, your enhanced state of being allows you to redirect attacks to non-vital areas of the body. While you are in a state of Unification, the first time you take damage per round, the total damage you take is halved. Subsequently, when you take damage again you may spend 1 ki point as a reaction to halve the total damage taken.
Ki Replenishment
3rd-Level Way of Tai Ki Feature
Also at 3rd level, your unique connection with ki allows you to access a deeper reserve of the resource. While you are in a state of Unification, you can use your action to regain half your total ki points, rounded down. You may only use this feature once per short rest.
Unified Mind
6rd-Level Way of Tai Ki Feature
Starting at 6th level, your mental prowess begins to match that of your physical body. While you are in a state of Unification, whenever you fail a Wisdom, Intelligence, or Charisma saving throw, you can spend 1 ki point to reroll that saving throw (no action required). You must use the new roll.
Unified Healing
6rd-Level Way of Tai Ki Feature
Also at 6th level, you can direct ki into injuries to encourage faster healing. While you are in a state of Unification, you may touch a creature and use an action to spend any number of ki points. The creature restores hit points equal to your Wisdom modifier per ki point spent. This feature has no effect on the undead or constructs.
Opposing Force
11th-Level Way of Tai Ki Feature
Starting at 11th level, you are able to find openings in your enemies defenses. While you are in a state of Unification, when a creature within 5ft of you deals damage to you with a melee attack, you may spend 1 ki point as a reaction to make a melee weapon attack against that creature. Until the start of your next turn, if the same creature deals damage to you with a melee attack within 5ft of you, you may spend 1 ki point to make a melee weapon attack against that creature (no action required).
Master of Ki
17th-Level Way of Tai Ki Feature
Starting at 17th level, you and up to 8 other creatures can spend 30 minutes of uninterrupted time performing Tai Ki to gain the following benefits:
- A +2 bonus to all attack and damage rolls
- Immunity to being frightened
- Advantage on all Wisdom saving throws
- Your hit point maximum is increased by 10 + your Wisdom modifier and you gain the same number of hit points
These benefits last for 12 hours but end early if the creature is unconscious.
