Paladin
Base Class: Paladin

The Oath of the SOLDIER is not a vow to a god or a cause—it is a commitment to absolute strength. Warriors who take this oath have been infused with Mako energy, a mystical force that heightens their reflexes, accelerates their movements, and allows them to channel elemental power through their weapons. Unlike traditional paladins, SOLDIERs do not rely on divine authority; instead, they harness their own willpower to transcend human limits.

SOLDIERs are defined by lightning-fast strikes, supernatural resilience, and explosive Limit Breaks that allow them to shatter enemies in moments of desperation. Through their unique connection to Mako energy, they wield Fire, Ice, and Lightning magic to devastate foes, and when they reach the peak of their power, they become an unstoppable force of destruction.

This subclass offers a more aggressive, fast-paced alternative to the traditional paladin, focusing on speed, elemental damage, and raw battle prowess rather than divine spells or healing. If you want to play a high-speed warrior who dominates the battlefield with magic-infused swordplay, then the Oath of the SOLDIER is for you.

A SOLDIER does not follow divine law, but instead abides by their own code of strength:

  • Power Through Will – Strength is not given; it is earned through battle.
  • Speed Is Survival – The swift strike wins the fight. Hesitation means death.
  • Mako’s Might – Magic and blade together create the ultimate warrior.

Level 3: 🔥 Elemental Overload (Channel Divinity Option)

As a [Tooltip Not Found] action, you use your Channel Divinity to enhance your strikes with Fire, Ice, or Lightning energy. Until the end of your turn, your melee weapon attacks deal an extra 1d8 damage of your chosen type. This damage increases to 2d8 at level 11.

Level 3: ⚡ Mako Dash (Channel Divinity Option)

As a [Tooltip Not Found] action, you use your Channel Divinity to enhance your reflexes. You can immediately move up to your full speed without provoking opportunity attacks. Additionally, you gain advantage on the next melee attack you make this turn.

Level 3: Oath of the SOLDIER Spells

The magic of your oath ensures you always have certain spells ready; when you reach a Paladin level specified in the Oath of the SOLDIER Spells table, you thereafter always have the listed spells prepared.

Oath of the SOLDIER Spells

Paladin Level Spells
3 Fire, Thunder, Blizzard, Shield, Misty Step
5 Fira, Thundara, Blizzara, Haste
9 Black Flare, Fly, Counterspell
13 Firaga, Thundaga, Blizzaga, Greater Invisibility, Wall of Force

Level 5: Heretic’s Ascension

At 5th level, the alien influence within you stirs, elevating you beyond even the strongest of warriors. Whether through your mako-infused body or the whispers of Jenova herself, you become something more—something unnatural.

You gain access to two powerful abilities:

  • Heartpiercer Strike – A precise and deadly thrust that strikes at an enemy’s core. When you take the Attack action, you can replace one of your attacks with a powerful piercing strike:
    • Make a melee weapon attack. On a hit, the target takes extra 2d8 piercing damage.
    • The target must make a Constitution saving throw (DC = 8 + your Proficiency Bonus + your Strength or Dexterity modifier).
    • On a failure: The target is Stunned until the start of your next turn.
    • On a success: The target resists the stun but still takes the additional damage.
    • You can use this ability a number of times equal to your Charisma modifier (minimum of 1) per long rest.
  • One-Winged Angel’s Wrath – By drawing upon your full power, you transform into an unstoppable force of destruction. As an action, you enter a heightened combat state for 1 minute, gaining:
    • +10 ft. movement speed
    • +2 AC
    • +1d8 force damage on melee weapon attacks
    • Temporary HP = your Paladin level + Charisma modifier
    • Once per turn, when you hit with a melee attack, the target must make a Wisdom saving throw (DC = 8 + Proficiency Bonus + Charisma modifier). On a failure, they become Frightened of you until the end of your next turn.
    • Once you use this feature, you must finish a long rest before using it again.

Level 7: Mako-Augmented Warrior (Aura of the SOLDIER)

Your physical abilities have been permanently enhanced by Mako energy. You gain the following benefits:

  • Your movement speed increases by 10 feet.
  • You and allies within 10 feet have advantage on Dexterity saving throws.
  • You can Dash as a bonus action.

At 18th level, the aura's range increases to 30 feet.

Level 10: Unrelenting Onslaught

Your mastery of the Masamune has reached its peak, allowing you to strike with blinding speed. On a successful hit, you can unleash a follow-up attack as a bonus action, cutting down your foes before they can react.

At 10th level, your connection to the legendary Masamune deepens, granting you unparalleled speed and precision in combat. When attuned to the Masamune, you gain access to Quick Slash, a devastating follow-up technique.

  • Quick Slash:
When you hit a creature with a melee weapon attack using the Masamune, you can use your bonus action to make an additional melee weapon attack against the same target:
    • This follow-up attack deals 2d6 Slashing damage
    • This ability can be used up to 3 times per long rest.
    • You can only use Quick Slash once per turn.
    • This feature cannot be used on an attack granted by Quick Slash itself (preventing infinite chains).
    • At Level 15, the bonus damage increases to 3d6 slashing damage, making your strikes even more devastating.

With each strike, your speed blurs beyond human comprehension, leaving behind afterimages as you carve through your enemies like a force of nature.

Level 15: Overdrive (SOLDIER’s Will)

When you are reduced to 0 hit points, you can use your reaction to drop to 1 HP instead, then immediately gain temporary hit points equal to your Paladin level. You can also take the Dash or Disengage action immediately as part of this reaction.

Once you use this feature, you must finish a long rest before using it again.

Level 20: Ultimate Limit Break (Jenova Form)

As a [Tooltip Not Found] action, you activate your Jenova Form, a state of pure Mako-fueled combat mastery. For 1 minute, you gain the following benefits:

  • +2 AC & Resistance to all damage.
  • Your movement speed doubles.
  • Your melee weapon attacks deal an extra 2d8 Force damage.
  • You can attack three times per turn instead of two.

Once you use this feature, you must finish a long rest before using it again.
