Paladins who swear the Oath of the Sacred Bond form a holy connection with a chosen beast. Whether it is a wolf, hawk, panther, or something more... exotic, their companion is a manifestation of divine loyalty and shared strength. This bond transcends speech and distance, becoming a sacred partnership of soul.

Scaling Traits for Companion

3rd Evasion: When forced to make Dex save, take no damage on success, half on failure
11th Extra Attack: When you take an attack action, your companion may also attack (No action required)
15th Empowering Strikes: Your companion's attacks deal an additional 1d6 radiant damage
20th Twin Guardianship: As an action you and your companion can swap places as a reaction.

Level 3: Oath of the Sacred Bond

The magic of your oath ensures you always have certain spells ready; when you reach a Paladin level specified in the Oath of the Sacred Bond Spells table, you thereafter always have the listed spells prepared.

Level 3: Channel Divinity

Swift Summoning

As an action, you can use your Channel Divinity to summon your beast companion to an unoccupied space within 5 feet of you, even if it is on another plane. If it is within 100 ft, this does not require vision.

Resucitate

As a reaction to seeing your beast be reduced to 0 HP, it regains HP equal to three times your paladin level and shoots out a light burst around it dealing 2d6 Radient damage for every 4 levels.

 

Familiar Bond

 

Starting at 3rd level, you can gain a beast companion with a CR of your level or lower. It uses the stat block of chosen beast with the following changes:

  • HP = Your Paladin level*5 or the beast's standard HP, whichever is higher.
  • It acts on your initiative. You can command it to take the Attack, Dash, Disengage, Dodge, or Help action as your bonus action.

You can communicate telepathically with it within 100 ft

 

To gain a companion, you must succeed at bonding with it. This will most likely take animal handling checks, among other things, up to DM discretion.

Sacred Synchronicity

 

Starting at 7th level, your bond deepens. You gain 2 charges per long rest to empower your connection. As bonus action, you may spend one charge to do one of the following.

 

  • Sense Link: See and hear through your companion's senses until the start of your next turn.
  • Guardian Spirit: Your companion Gains 10+ Your Paladin Level THP
  • Divine Speed: Your companion's movement speed increases by 20 ft until the end of your next turn.

Level 7: Bonded Rider

 

Starting at 7th level, your bond deepens. While you are mounted on your beast companion (Or it is mounted on you):

 

  • You have advantage on Strength and Dexterity saving throws made to avoid being dismantled or knocked prone.
  • You and your companion both gain a +2 bonus to AC while mounted together
  • Whenever you use Divine Smite, your companion's next melee attack deals extra radiant damage equal to your Charisma modifier, as your divine energy surges through both of you

This bonus is only active while with your bonded companion, not just any creature.

Level 15: Guardian's Vow

 

At 15th level, When your companion is reduced to 0 HP, you can use your reaction to grant it half of your current HP. You immediately teleport to its side within 100ft and take an action. If you are reduced to 0HP it will do the same. This feature can be used once per long rest.

Level 20: Avatar of Unity

 

At level 20, as an action, you and your companion combine souls and become a divine avatar for 1 minute.

  • You have a flying speed of 60 feet 
  • You can take one attack, and your companion can take one attack as a bonus action/action
  • You gain +2d6 radient damage to all attacks
  • Whenever either of you deals damage, the other gains 5hp
  • You regain 1 use of channel divinity

Once using this, you must wait 1 week until you use it again.
