Base Class: Paladin
The Oath of the Messenger is taken by paladins who travel the land spreading news. Many of them serve gods of travel, such as Hermes. Those sworn to this oath are bound to communicate information in a truthful manner, regardless of the effect it may have on their own person—neither weather nor threat of death will stop the news from being spread!
These paladins share the following tenets:
- Neither snow nor rain will stop the news.
- Uncover the truth before jumping to conclusions.
- Tell the truth as it is, without embellishment.
Level 3: Oath of the Messenger Spells
The magic of your oath ensures you always have certain spells ready; when you reach a Paladin level specified in the Oath of the Messenger Spells table, you thereafter always have the listed spells prepared.
| Paladin Level | Spells |
|---|---|
| 3 | Comprehend Languages, Longstrider |
| 5 | Pass without Trace, Zone of Truth |
| 9 | Haste, Tongues |
| 13 | Dimension Door, Freedom of Movement |
| 17 | Rary's Telepathic Bond, Teleportation Circle |
Level 3: Unimpeded Communication
As a Magic action, you can expend one use of Channel Divinity to communicate telepathically with your allies. Choose one or more creatures you can see, up to a number of creatures equal to your Proficiency Bonus. For a number of hours equal to your Charisma modifier, you can speak to the chosen creatures telepathically, and they can speak to you. To communicate this way, you and a chosen creature must be within 1 mile of one another.
Level 7: Aura of Traversal
Your movement ignores Difficult Terrain.
In addition, allies within your Aura of Protection ignore Difficult Terrain, and if an enemy within your Aura of Protection takes damage, they cannot make Opportunity Attacks until they leave the aura.
Level 15: Center of Attention
You can quickly draw the ire of your enemies. When another creature you can see within 30 ft. of you is targeted by an attack roll, you can take a Reaction to teleport, swapping places with the attack's intended target. The attacking creature must make the attack against your AC instead.
You can use this feature a number of times equal to your Charisma modifier (minimum of once), and you regain all expended uses when you finish a Long Rest.
Level 20: Divine Messenger
As a Bonus Action, you can empower your Aura of Protection, gaining the benefits below for 10 minutes. Once you use this feature, you can’t use it again until you finish a Long Rest. You can also restore your use of it by expending a level 5 spell slot (no action required).
Divine Dodge. When a creature within the aura would hit you with an attack roll, you can take a Reaction to cause that attack to miss.
Polyglot. You can understand, speak, and write any language.
Swiftness. Your walking speed is doubled, and your movement does not provoke Opportunity Attacks.
