Base Class: Artificer
The destructive power of an explosive is unparalleled in the world of artifice. Many magic
casters have the strength of spells such as fireball and many martial classes have the power to
shatter the earth, but nothing can compare to the raw power of gunpowder and napalm. That is
the focus of the grenadier: creating some of the greatest force known in any world. From small
duds to shattering dimensions, the power of the grenadier cannot be matched.
Level 3: Dangerous Nest Eggs
You have begun to invest your strength and
time into the creation of small orbs of fury
to destroy whatever crosses your path.
Starting at 3rd Level, you can create a
number of Occult Explosives equal to five
times your artificer level during a Long
Rest. You can also create a number of
Occult Explosives at a Short Rest equal to
your Spellcasting modifier. These Occult
Explosives can be stored over an
indiscriminate amount of time.
You may create any Occult Explosives
from the Occult Explosives section at the
end of this subclass description as long as
you meet the requirements to create them.
You have proficiency when using your
Occult Explosives, and every Occult
Explosive counts as a ranged weapon with
both the finesse and thrown properties, with
a range of 20/60. You may add your
Intelligence modifier to attack and damage
rolls when making attacks with your Occult
Explosives.
Each Occult Explosive requires some form
of material to create and cannot be created
without those materials. Every Occult
Explosive has an auxiliary effect that takes
place when an attack lands on a creature or
space. All saving throws required for these
effects have a DC equal to your Spell Save
DC. A Dungeon Master may require more
specification in ingredients when it comes to
crafting your Occult Explosives, such as
requiring a number of ingredients of a
certain gold piece count or specific
ingredients, such as gunpowder for an
Incendiary Bomb.
Level 5: Playing Catch
The amount of skill required to throw your
Occult Explosives has given you a greater
sense of- and admiration for- flying objects.
Starting at 5th Level, you gain proficiency
with all weapons that have the thrown
property. Additionally, you can use your
reaction to deflect or catch any missiles you
are hit with from a ranged weapon attack.
When you do so, the damage you take from
the attack is reduced by 1d10 + your
Intelligence Modifier + your artificer level.
If you reduce the damage to 0, you can catch
the missile if it is small enough for you to
hold in one hand and you have at least one
hand free.
Level 9: Endless Rain
Your skill and dexterity with your Occult
Explosives has given you the ability to fire
off at an endless rate. Starting at 9th Level,
you can make an attack with your Occult
Explosives as a bonus action. You can also
make an opportunity attack with your Occult
Explosives when a creature steps outside of
a 10-foot radius from you. Additionally, you
no longer have disadvantage when making
an attack with your Occult Explosives
within 5 feet.
Waves of Destruction
You can create an endless number of your
Occult Explosives, suiting your every need!
Starting at 15th Level, you can create a
number of Occult Explosives equal to your
proficiency modifier as a bonus action.
Additionally, when a creature makes an
attack on you, you can, as a reaction, make
an attack with one of your Occult
Explosives with advantage.
