Base Class: Paladin
Paladins who swear the Oath of Martyrs embrace suffering as a sacred duty. They see their own existence as a vessel for a greater cause, willingly enduring pain so that others may thrive. Whether as the chosen sacrifice of a prophecy, the devoted guardian of a cause, or the willing pawn of a higher power, these warriors find purpose in selfless suffering, knowing that their pain serves a higher purpose.
These paladins share the following tenets:
- Put others before yourself. Your existence is meant to shield, aid, and empower others, even at your own expense.
- Your life is contributing to something bigger than yourself. Whether fulfilling a prophecy, aiding a cause, or serving a deity, you are but a means to an end.
- Pain is fleeting, but sacrifice is eternal. To suffer is to be sanctified. True devotion is proven in your willingness to endure.
Level 3: Oath of Martyrs Spells
The magic of your oath ensures you always have certain spells ready; when you reach a Paladin level specified in the Oath of Martyrs Spells table, you thereafter always have the listed spells prepared.
level 3 - compelled duel, thunderwave
level 5 - ray of enfeeblement, warding bond
level 9 - feign death, vampiric touch
level 13 - death ward, staggering smite
level 17 - destructive wave, steel wind strike
Level 3: Offer Life
As an action, you can touch a creature and transfer your life force. You can sacrifice a number of hit points equal to your Paladin level plus your Charisma Modifier. The target regains double that amount of hit points.
Level 7: Aura of Martyrdom
Allies in your Aura of Protection can use a reaction to half the damage dealt to them and transfer the other half of the damage to you. Additionally, while you are below half your hit point maximum, You and your allies in the Aura gain resistance to bludgeoning, piercing, and slashing damage.
Level 15: Body of the Chosen
If you are reduced to 0 hitpoints, your body emits a wave of divine energy, healing all allies within 30 feet of you for an amount of hit points equal to five times your Paladin level. Additionally you gain resistance to psychic damage, as your devotion dulls your fear of death.
Level 20: Sacrificial Detonation
As a Magic action, you release all of your divine energy in a final act of sacrifice. All creatures of your choice within a 30-foot radius must make a Dexterity saving throw. On a failure, they take 20d12 damage type of your choice; Force, Necrotic, or Radiant. A Creature who dies from this will have their body disintegrated. On a successful save, a target takes half as much damage only.
After using this feature, you are reduced to 0 HP, begin making death saving throws immediately. Should you survive, you can't use this feature again until you finish 2d4 Long Rests.
