Base Class: Barbarian
Path of Infernal Hatred
Barbarian Primal Path
“Wrath forged in hellfire, shield shattered by curses.”
Barbarians who walk this path are conduits of hell’s fury, wielding shields that burn with dark runes and bludgeoning weapons that crush souls as easily as bones. Rage is the weapon of the damned—unyielding, precise, and merciless.
3rd Level: Hellforged Bulwark
-
While raging, your shield becomes a weapon of infernal wrath, dealing 1d8 bludgeoning damage (uses Strength for attack and damage rolls).
-
When you strike with your shield, you can push the target 5 feet away, as if casting them back into the abyss.
-
You may hurl your shield with deadly precision at one target within 20 feet (60 feet long range). The shield returns to your grasp at the end of your turn if nothing bars its path and you have a free hand.
-
You can use a bonus action to make a melee or ranged attack with your shield once per turn.
3rd Level: Doombound Judgment
Choose a weapon forged in infernal war: mace, flail, or morningstar. While raging, your strikes with this weapon are imbued with cursed might:
-
Your weapon attacks ignore resistance to bludgeoning damage, shattering defenses like hell’s hammer.
-
When you hit a creature, it must succeed on a Constitution saving throw (DC = 8 + proficiency + Strength modifier) or be stunned until the end of your next turn, crushed by unholy force.
-
Once per turn, your critical hits rend the victim’s soul, dealing extra damage equal to your barbarian level.
6th Level: Infernal Crush
-
When you hit a creature with your shield, you may attempt to shove it as part of the same strike.
-
On a successful shove, the target is thrown prone, slammed to the ground by infernal power.
-
If the shove fails, the target is shaken, suffering disadvantage on attacks against you until the start of your next turn.
-
After knocking a foe prone or shoving them, you may use a free action to make an additional melee attack with your shield.
10th Level: Hellstone Bastion
-
When a creature’s melee attack misses you, you lash out with your shield, fueled by infernal wrath—use your reaction to strike back.
-
On a hit, the creature takes damage and its speed is sapped by 10 feet until the start of your next turn.
-
Your skin hardens like hellstone, granting resistance to force, fire and bludgeoning damage.
14th Level: Rage of the Damned
-
Upon entering rage, the infernal power in your shield flares—make a shield attack as a bonus action immediately.
-
Your shield attacks score critical hits on rolls of 19 or 20, as if guided by vengeful spirits.
-
When you reduce a creature to 0 hit points with your shield or chosen weapon, you surge forward up to half your speed and make another shield or weapon attack as part of the same bonus action.
-
Additionally, when you force a Constitution saving throw with Doombound Judgment and the target fails, it suffers psychic damage equal to your Strength modifier—its mind tormented by infernal wrath.
