Base Class: Barbarian
Path of the Dragon — Gameplay Overview
Those who walk the Path of the Dragon don’t merely rage—they transform. Tapping into an ancient draconic force, you become a beast of legend wrapped in elemental fury, radiant power, and primal strength. This subclass blends ferocious martial combat with customizable forms, offering tactical variety every time you rage.
Rage With Form
At 3rd level, your rage takes shape—literally. Each time you rage, you choose one of three draconic forms, each bringing a distinct combat style:
Dragon Breath unleashes elemental devastation in a 15-foot cone. Choose the energy type (fire, cold, lightning, acid, or poison) and burn your enemies in a wave of raw force.
Dragon Claws turn your hands into deadly weapons, letting you slice through foes with increasing power—and even make an extra attack each turn.
Dragon Scales wrap your body in radiant armor, granting necrotic resistance, bonus radiant damage, and an intimidating aura of light.
These forms scale as you grow stronger, adding more dice, more damage, and more dominance on the battlefield.
Evolution of the Soul
At 6th level, Dragon Soul makes your transformation even more potent. You now gain Dragon Scales automatically with every rage—stacking it with Breath or Claws. You also unlock mutations tied to your rest: wings for flight, tremorsense for awareness, or the power to cling to walls like a great wyrm. Choose the trait that suits your terrain or the coming threat.
Platinum Ascension
At 10th level, your rage erupts into something divine. You unlock three Platinum Dragon Forms, letting you wield legendary strength, breath force energy, or gain near-invulnerability. Each form is powerful, and choosing the right one can turn the tide of an encounter. Do you want to blind your foes with radiance, stand impervious against their attacks, or tear through ranks with overwhelming power?
Avatar of Bahamut
At 14th level, your transformation reaches its peak. Once per long rest, you can become a Platinum Dragon—a towering avatar of divine justice. Fly, breathe destructive force, resist all damage, and become a beacon of wrath and protection in the storm of battle.
Whether you’re a brutal talon in the frontlines or a radiant beast of retribution, the Path of the Dragon gives you tactical versatility, unrelenting power, and the thrill of becoming the monster others fear—and admire.
Let them roar. You answer with a roar of your own.
Form of the Dragon
Starting when you choose this path at 3rd level, when you enter your rage, you can transform, revealing the dragon power within you. Until the rage ends, you manifest one form. You add your Strength modifier to the attack and damage rolls when you attack with it.
You choose the form each time you rage:
**Dragon Breath**
An aura wraps your head in the shape of a great dragon's head. As an action during your rage, you can exhale in a 15 ft. cone. Each creature in the area must make a CON saving throw (DC 12), taking 2d6 damage on a failed save or half on a success. Choose Cold, Fire, Lightning, Acid, or Poison damage according to your dragonborn scales.
At higher levels: [6th] 3d6, [11th] 4d6, [16th] 5d6.
**Dragon Claws**
Each of your hands becomes wrapped in an aura forming massive claws. These are considered melee weapons with which you are proficient.
- Damage: 1d6 slashing (empty hand only)
- At higher levels: [6th] 1d8, [11th] 1d12, [16th] 1d20
- Once on each of your turns when you attack with a claw using the Attack action, you can make one additional claw attack.
**Dragon Scales**
Your entire body becomes sheathed in radiant scales.
- You radiate bright light in a 30 ft radius.
- You gain resistance to necrotic damage.
- Your melee attacks (weapon and unarmed) deal an extra +2 radiant damage.
Dragon Soul
Starting at 6th level, when you rage, your Form of the Dragon now always includes the Dragon Scales effect in addition to your chosen form (Dragon Claws or Dragon Breath).
You also gain a new draconic mutation. When you finish a short or long rest, choose one of the following traits to gain until your next rest:
**Dragon Senses**: You gain darkvision and tremorsense (both 60 feet).
**Draconic Muscles**: You gain a climbing speed equal to your walking speed. You can climb difficult surfaces, including ceilings, without a check.
**Dragon Wings**: You gain a flying speed of 60 feet.
Dragon Might
At 10th level, your connection to dragon power deepens, granting access to powerful Platinum Dragon forms. Choose one of the following additional forms when you rage:
**Platinum Dragon Scale**
- You radiate light in a 30ft radius.
- You are resistant to all damage types.
- You are immune to necrotic damage.
- Your melee attacks deal +4 radiant damage.
(*This form is not considered “free” like Dragon Scales from Dragon Soul.*)
**Platinum Dragon Strength**
- Creatures within 5 feet of you are blinded.
- You gain truesight in a 30 ft radius.
- You have advantage on Strength checks.
- You deal +1d12 radiant damage on any damage roll.
**Platinum Dragon Breath**
- You exhale a 15 ft. cone of force damage.
- Creatures must make a CON save (DC 16), taking 3d8 force damage on a failed save or half as much on success.
Bahamut’s Justice
At 14th level, you can fully channel Bahamut’s divine power. Once per long rest, you can transform into a Platinum Dragon.
This transformation is similar to a druid’s Wild Shape and lasts for 1 minute. You gain the following benefits:
- Your size becomes Huge.
- You gain 100 temporary hit points.
- You gain a flying speed of 80 feet.
- You can use your Platinum Dragon Breath (force, 3d8, 15 ft. cone, CON save DC 16) as a bonus action.
- Your unarmed attacks deal 2d12 force damage and are considered magical.
- You are resistant to all damage types and immune to necrotic damage.
Once this transformation ends, you return to your normal form and cannot use this feature again until you finish a long rest.
