Monk
Base Class: Monk

The warrior of Gun-Fu takes the baseline of the path of kensei and weaves in support for the use of firearms, and gun-slinging.

Weaving melee attacks with devastating ranged ballistics, the warrior of Gun-Fu has an answer for every situation.

Path of the Projectile

When you choose this tradition at 3rd level, your special martial arts training leads you to master the use of certain weapons. This path also includes instruction in the deft augmentation of weapons with your choice of Smith's tools  or Tinker's tools. You gain the following benefits.

Gun-fu Weapons. You learn the ways of new weapons to be your gun-fu weapons: one melee weapon of your choice and the pistol. Each of these weapons can be any simple or martial weapon that lacks the heavy and special properties. You gain proficiency with these weapons if you don’t already have it. Weapons of the chosen types are monk weapons for you. Many of this tradition’s features work only with your gun-fu weapons. When you reach 6th, 11th, and 17th level in this class, you can choose another type of weapon — either melee or a firearm — to be a gun-fu weapon for you, following the criteria above.

Pistol whip. If you spend 1 or more focus points as part of your action, you can make one unarmed strike or attack with a monk weapon as a bonus action.

Deadeye Shot. You can use a bonus action on your turn to make your ranged attacks with a gun-fu weapon more deadly. When you do so, any target you hit with a ranged attack using a gun-fu weapon takes an extra 1d4 damage of the weapon’s type. You retain this benefit until the end of the current turn.

Way of Steel. You gain proficiency with your choice of smith's tools or tinker's tools.

Barrel and Blade

At 6th level, you extend your Focus into your gun-fu weapons, granting you the following benefits.

Fly Catcher. Whenever a ranged attack is made by a creature within your firearms normal range, you can expend a focus point as a reaction to use your deflect attacks feature. Potentially deflecting the damage of the attack completely from any target.

Gun Kata. When you hit a target with a gun-fu weapon, you can spend 1 Focus point to cause the weapon to deal extra damage to the target equal to your Martial Arts die. You can use this feature only once on each of your turns.

Kensei Weapon

When you reach 6th level in this class, you can choose another type of weapon — either melee or ranged — to be a kensei weapon for you, following the criteria above.

Sharp Weapon and Wit

At 11th level, you gain the ability to augment your weapons further with your Focus. As a reaction when you miss with an attack roll, you can spend 1 to 3 focus points to increase the attack roll by 2 for each focus point expended, potentially turning a miss into a hit.

Additionally, you regain a focus point whenever one of the following occurs.

  • You score a critical hit on a Challenge Rating 1/2 hostile creature.
  • Roll a 20 on a saving throw imposed by a Challenge Rating 1/2 hostile creature.
  • You reduce a Challenge Rating 1/2 hostile creature to 0 hit points for the first time each turn.

Kensei Weapon

When you reach 11th level in this class, you can choose another type of weapon — either melee or ranged — to be a kensei weapon for you, following the criteria above.

Bullet Time

At 17th level, your mastery of high velocity weapons has brought your perception, reaction and movements to new speeds thought previously impossible.

As a bonus action on your turn, you can expend 5 focus points to heighten your senses, to the point of time moving perceptively slower for only you. To the outside world you are a whirling dervish of bullets and bludgeons, graceful as ever, and impossibly quick. For 10 minutes you gain the following benefits;

  • You can make one additional reaction every round. You still may only take one reaction per turn.
  • You regain 1 focus point whenever you hit with both a melee and ranged monk weapon in one turn.
  • You have advantage on all ability checks with which you are proficient.
  • You are under the effects of the Disengage action, and can take the Patient Defense bonus action without expending a Focus Point each turn.

Kensei Weapon

When you reach 17th level in this class, you can choose another type of weapon — either melee or ranged — to be a kensei weapon for you, following the criteria above.
