Base Class: Sorcerer
Your body has gone through changes that defy logic and nature. Something has pushed a volatile mutation into your being, whether it was from experiments you never consented to, exposure to unstable magic, or the impact of a planar breach. You now have more power, but at the expense of your control, your appearance, and occasionally your mind. It is up to you to identify the cause of your mutation. Maybe you were the victim of a failed ritual that no one fully understood, or you were changed by a magical disease, or you survived an encounter with a creature from the Far Realm.
Mutation Awakens
The mutation surfaces suddenly and uncontrollably.
- Choose or roll twice on the Mutation Appearance Table
- Gain proficiency in Intimidation. If already proficient, gain expertise
- You can telepathically communicate one way with one creature within 30 feet when experiencing strong emotions.
| 1 | Glowing, shifting eyes |
| 2 | Veins glow with strange colors |
| 3 | Hair floats unnaturally |
| 4 | Phantom limbs flicker into view when casting spells |
| 5 | Extra joints or bone ridges under the skin |
| 6 | Your shadow moves independently |
| 7 | Runes appear and vanish on your skin |
| 8 | Twitching, visible pulses of energy beneath your skin |
Mutation Crisis
Once per long rest, when you:
- When you fall below half your maximum hit points make a wisdom spell save
- Roll a natural 1 on a spell attack or saving throw
A mutation crisis is triggered. Roll a d6 and consult the mutation crisis table. [roll]1d6[/roll]
| 1 | Wild Magic Surge: Roll on the Sorcerer Wild Magic Surge table. |
| 2 | Psychic Pulse: You and creatures within 5 feet take 1d4 psychic damage. |
| 3 | Telepathic Scream: Creatures within 30 feet must succeed on a DC 13 Wisdom save or be frightened until the end of your next turn. |
| 4 | Distorted Form: Disadvantage on attacks and concentration checks until the end of the next turn. |
| 5 | Spell Misfire: Your next spell targets a random creature within range. |
| 6 | Mind Snap: You are stunned until the end of your next turn. |
Forced Adaptation
Whenever a mutation crisis occurs, roll a d4 to determine a temporary effect that lasts until the end of your next turn. [roll]1d4[/roll]
| 1 | Your skin hardens or grows chitin, granting you +2 to AC |
| 2 | Your limbs stretch or twitch, increasing your movement speed by 10 feet |
| 3 | You gain resistance to the last type of damage you took |
| 4 | Your attacks have disadvantage, but your spell save DC increases by 2 |
You have also learned to trigger the mutation crisis voluntarily. Once per long rest, you can use a bonus action to initiate a mutation crisis and roll on the mutation crisis table to determine the effect.
Mutagenic Bloom
Once per long rest, you can enter a mutagenic bloom as an action, causing your mutation to violently manifest for 1 minute. While in this state:
- You visibly transform, growing unnatural features like tendrils, extra eyes, wings, or glowing energy lines.
- When you deal damage with a sorcerer spell, you can force a second creature within 15 feet of the original target to make a Wisdom saving throw. On a failed save, the second creature takes psychic damage equal to 1d6 + your charisma modifier. This damage increases to 2d6 + your charisma modifier at level 17.
- If you trigger a Mutation Crisis during this state, roll twice on the Mutation Crisis Table and choose which effect occurs.
- When you enter this form, all creatures within 30 feet of you that can see you must succeed on a Wisdom saving throw or become frightened of you until the end of your next turn.
Final Adaptation
Once per long rest, when you would be reduced to 0 hit points, you instead drop to 1 hit point and release a shockwave of unstable energy as your form violently contorts.
Each creature of your choice within 20 feet must succeed on a constitution saving throw or take 5d10 psychic damage and be pushed 10 feet away. On a successful save, a creature takes half damage and is not pushed.
When this effect triggers, your mutation leaves behind a permanent mark or transformation, such as:
- A glowing fracture across your skin or skull
- A twisted horn, extra eye, or bony protusion
- A patch of translucent skin revealing arcane energy beneath
- A warped eye or limb that no longer looks fully human.
This mark is irreversible and serves as a reminder of the moment your mutation saved your life.
