Base Class: Monk
Monks of the Way of the Ethereal Veil walk a path between worlds, studying the shimmering edge where the Material and Ethereal Planes touch. While others master the perfection of body or mind, these monks reach into the veil that separates reality from the ethereal.
Monks of this tradition are often viewed with awe or suspicion. Some say they commune with the dead. Others claim they are already half-gone themselves. But to those who study the Ethereal Veil, the truth is simple: the borders of reality are merely suggestions, and they have learned to walk beyond them.
Level 3: Eyes of the Veil
As a bonus action, you can attune your senses to the Ethereal Plane. For 1 minute, you can see invisible creatures and objects within 30 feet of you as if they were visible.
You can use this feature a number of times equal to your Wisdom modifier (minimum once). You regain all expended uses after a long rest.
You can also cast **detect magic** once per long rest, without material components. Wisdom is your spellcasting ability for this spell.
Level 3: Veil Skip
When you take the Disengage action on your turn, you can move through other creatures’ spaces as if they were difficult terrain until the end of the turn. You cannot end your movement in another creature’s space or move through walls or solid objects.
Level 6: Step Through the veil
As a bonus action, you can spend 1 ki point to teleport up to 30 feet to an unoccupied space you can see. This movement does not provoke opportunity attacks.
If you end this movement adjacent to a creature, you can make one unarmed strike as part of the same bonus action.
Level 6: Ghost strike
When you use your Martial Arts or Flurry of Blows feature, you can choose to deal force damage instead of bludgeoning damage with your unarmed strikes until the end of the turn. This costs 1 additional ki point.
Level 11: Veil Echo
Once per turn, when you hit a creature with an unarmed strike, you can spend 3 ki points to force it to make a Wisdom saving throw (DC = 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Wisdom modifier).
On a failed save, the creature becomes partially phased until the start of your next turn:
- It can’t take reactions.
- Its movement speed is halved.
- You can move through its space as if it were difficult terrain.
Level 17: Ethereal Jaunt
As an action, you can spend 4 ki points to phase into the Ethereal Plane for up to 1 minute. This requires concentration, as if you were concentrating on a spell.
While phased:
- You can move through objects and creatures as if they were difficult terrain.
- You are invisible to creatures that can’t see into the Ethereal Plane.
- Your unarmed strikes automatically deal force damage instead of bludgeoning.
You can end this effect early as a bonus action. You cannot phase into solid matter more than 5 feet thick. If you end your turn inside a solid object, you are shunted to the nearest unoccupied space and take force damage equal to twice the distance moved (in feet).
