Base Class: Monk
Deep in untouched forests, windswept steppes, and ancient mountain groves, there are those who seek not to conquer nature, but to become one with it. Monks who follow the Way of the Verdant Fist devote their lives to this ideal — a harmony of body, spirit, and the primal world. They do not worship nature as a distant force, but rather live within its rhythm, attuning their ki to the beating heart of the wild.
These monks see the natural world not as something to be controlled, but as a teacher. The whispering leaves, the crash of thunder, the stillness of stone — all hold lessons. By meditating beneath waterfall canopies, sparring with the wind, and walking barefoot among tangled roots and cold streams, Verdant Fist monks awaken a connection between their inner energy and the ever-shifting balance of life.
The power they wield is not flashy or arcane, but raw and organic. Their strikes may entangle with vines, their senses mimic those of hawks and wolves, and their words can stir the minds of beasts. In battle, they are living forces of nature — swift as the wind, rooted like the oak, and wild as the storm. Some serve as guardians of sacred groves, while others wander the lands to restore broken ecosystems, free mistreated creatures, or teach others to respect the wilderness.
To walk the Way of the Verdant Fist is to walk barefoot in a world that is both beautiful and unforgiving. It is to find peace not in walls or cities, but in the rustling grass, the scent of earth, and the ever-renewing cycle of life and death.
Level 3: Nature's Flow
You begin to attune your ki with the natural world.
-
Nature’s Whisper: You can cast Speak with Animals a number of times equal to your Wisdom modifier (minimum once), regaining all expended uses when you finish a long rest. Wisdom is your spellcasting ability for this spell.
-
Druidcraft: You learn the Druidcraft cantrip, which you cast using Wisdom.
-
Verdant Strike: When you hit a creature with an unarmed strike, you can spend 1 ki point to channel natural energy. Choose one:
-
Entangling Roots: The target must succeed on a Strength saving throw or be restrained by spectral roots until the end of your next turn.
-
Gale Step: You can immediately move up to 15 feet without provoking opportunity attacks.
-
-
You gain proficiency in the Nature skill if you don’t already have it.
Level 6: Beastkin Reflexes
As your connection to nature deepens, you learn to mimic the instincts of wild animals. As a bonus action, you can spend 1 ki point to gain one of the following effects for 10 minutes:
-
Eagle’s Eyes: You gain darkvision out to 60 feet (or +30 feet if you already have it), and advantage on Wisdom (Perception) checks using sight.
-
Wolf’s Grace: You gain advantage on Dexterity (Stealth) checks, and your movement leaves no trail and cannot be tracked unless you allow it.
-
Bear’s Strength: Once per turn when you hit with an unarmed strike, you deal an extra damage die of the same type. You also count as one size larger for grappling and shoving.
Level 11: Harmony of the Wilds
Your ki and nature have become one.
-
You can cast Speak with Plants at will, without expending a spell slot or material components.
-
When you cast Speak with Animals or Speak with Plants, beasts and plants are instinctively non-hostile unless they are being directly threatened (DM’s discretion).
-
When you finish a short or long rest in natural terrain, you can regain 1d4 ki points.
Level 17: Avatar of the Wild
You can unleash your full harmony with nature as a primal force. As an action, you can spend 4 ki points to transform into an Aspect of Nature for 1 minute. Choose one aspect:
-
Storm Wind: Gain a flying speed equal to your movement. Your unarmed strikes deal thunder damage and push creatures 10 feet away on a hit.
-
Ancient Tree: Gain resistance to all damage. At the end of each enemy's turn within 10 feet, spectral vines lash out, dealing 1d8 magical bludgeoning damage.
-
Hunting Panther: Your speed increases by 20 feet. You can Dash or Disengage as a bonus action. Your unarmed strikes score a critical hit on a 19 or 20.
You can use this feature once per long rest, or again by spending 6 ki points.
