Base Class: Druid
Deep within forgotten hollows and mist-cloaked valleys, far from city roads and mapped lands, there are places where the land remembers. These are ancient, quiet places. Not empty...but listening. Druids of the Circle of the Whispering Hollow are those who have learned to listen back.
Drawn to secluded woodlands, steep ridgelines, and the winding forest trails of the world’s quieter corners, these druids do not merely protect nature, they become part of the folklore whispered between trees. In these regions, stories speak of voices that call out in the dark, echoing arguments never spoken, or footsteps in the leaves when no one walks the trail. The Whispering Hollow is not a single place, but a phenomenon: a convergence of natural and arcane memory, where illusion and spirit intertwine, and where time often feels not quite right.
Druids of this Circle harness sound, memory, and deception. They create illusions as easily as a breeze carries leaves. Their magic is subtle, strange, and often unsettling. Where other druids shape bark or beast, these whispering mystics shape belief itself, guiding friend and foe alike with unseen hands and murmured truths.
Those who follow this path rarely lead others. They guide from behind, disappear when watched, and are often spoken of in the same breath as local legends. A woman with a deer skull for a face, seen only in fog. A man who asks for your name in the woods and walks away wearing your voice. A child who leads you back to camp… but no one saw her arrive.
They are not malevolent, but they are strange, and like the hollows they protect, they do not take kindly to trespassers.
Level 3: Circle of the Whispering Hollow Spells
Your connection to the eerie stillness of ancient hollows grants you access to spells that draw upon illusion, dread, and the strange voices carried on the wind. You always have certain spells prepared, and they don’t count against the number of spells you can prepare each day.
If you gain a spell from this feature that doesn’t appear on the druid spell list, it is nonetheless considered a druid spell for you.
| Druid Level | Spells |
|---|---|
| 3rd | dissonant whispers, silent image |
| 5th | phantasmal force, mirror image |
| 7th | greater invisibility, hallucinatory terrain |
| 9th | dream, mislead |
Level 3: Murmuring Veil
When you adopt this Circle, you learn to speak with the Hollow.
- You learn the minor illusion cantrip and the spell dissonant whispers. They count as druid spells for you and don’t count against your prepared spells.
- You can cast minor illusion without verbal or somatic components.
- When you cast minor illusion, you may have the voice match someone the target has heard in the last 24 hours, even if you haven’t.
Level 3: Voice in the Trees
Once per short rest, you can whisper a phrase into the wild and cause it to echo through your allies or enemies.
As a bonus action, choose one creature you can see within 60 feet.
- An enemy must make a Wisdom saving throw or suffer disadvantage on its next attack and have its speed halved until the end of its next turn, as something in the woods calls it back.
- An ally gains advantage on their next saving throw and can move without provoking opportunity attacks until the end of their turn, carried on unseen currents.
At 10th level, you can affect two creatures with this ability.
Level 6: Hollow Form
You can take on an eerie, echoing nature-spirit shape when you use your Wild Shape.
You gain access to a special Wild Shape form called the Hollow Wraith.
Appearance: Semi-transparent and flickering, with mirrored eyes or doubled shadows.
While in this form:
-
You gain a fly speed equal to your walking speed (you hover).
-
You can move through narrow gaps, such as cracks or hollow trees.
-
You can cast druid spells without verbal components.
-
You have advantage on Deception and Stealth checks.
You can assume this form for up to 10 minutes, once per short rest.
Level 10: Whispers Unseen
The land itself plays tricks for you.
You can cast phantasmal force once per long rest without a spell slot, and it does not require concentration if it targets a creature already affected by your minor illusion or dissonant whispers.
Additionally, when you or an ally within 30 feet is attacked, you may use your reaction to conjure a ghostly double: The attacker must reroll with disadvantage.
You can use this feature a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus per long rest.
Level 14: Breath of the Hollow
Starting at 14th level, you can call upon the haunting power of the Hollow, channeling voices older than memory to disorient your foes and slip between illusions and reality.
As an action, you unleash a wave of ancient whispers. Each creature of your choice within 60 feet that can hear you must make a Wisdom saving throw against your spell save DC. On a failed save, a creature is frightened of you for 1 minute and suffers the following effects while frightened:
-
It can’t benefit from advantage on attack rolls or saving throws.
-
The first time on each of its turns it makes an attack or casts a spell, it takes psychic damage equal to your Wisdom modifier (minimum 1).
A frightened creature can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on a success.
While this effect is active (up to 1 minute, no concentration required), you gain the following benefits:
-
You are invisible in dim light or darkness, becoming visible only when you cast a damaging spell or attack.
-
You can cast silent image and mirror image as bonus actions, once each without expending a spell slot.
-
When one of your illusions (such as minor illusion, silent image, or phantasmal force) is within 30 feet of a frightened creature, that creature has disadvantage on saves to end the frightened condition.
You may use this feature once per long rest.
