Base Class: Bard
Bards of the College of Chaos have tapped into the wild magic flowing through the universe. These Bards embrace the chaos of the untamed magic, often becoming conduits for this powerful magic as it seeks to be released into the ordered world.
Level 3: Chaos Surge
Starting at 3rd level, your spellcasting can unleash surges of untamed magic. Whenever you cast a Bard spell of first level or higher, roll a d20. If a Chaos Surge is triggered by this roll, roll on the Chaos Surge table to create a magical effect. If that effect is a spell which would normally requires concentration, it doesn’t require concentration in this case; the spell lasts for its full duration.
The trigger for a Chaos Surge always starts at 1 and goes up for every avoided Chaos Surge by a number equivalent to the level of the last spell cast.
Example:
| Spell # | Spell level | CS trigger |
| 1 | 2nd | 1 |
| 2 | 3rd | 1+2=3 |
| 3 | 1st | 3+3=6 |
| 4 | 1st | 6+1=7 |
If a Chaos Surge is triggered, the level of the spell that caused it does not get added to the trigger.
The trigger resets back to 1 upon completing a long rest.
Level 3: Counter Chaos
Starting a 3rd level, whenever you or a creature you can see takes damage, as a reaction, you may spend one of your Bardic Inspiration dice to trigger a magical backlash at the attacking creature.
Roll your Inspiration die on the Counter Chaos table to determine the magical effect produced.
| Counter Chaos Table | |
|---|---|
| Inspiration Die | Effect |
| 1 | You accidentally bolster the creature’s attacks. Until the end of its next round, the creature has advantage on attacks against enemies. |
| 2 | The outpour of chaotic magic disorientates the target momentarily. Until the end of its next turn, attacks against this creature have advantage. |
| 3 | Blinding light engulfs the creature. The creature is considered Blinded until the end of its next turn. |
| 4 | Chaos Magic warps the creature’s perception of you. It is considered Charmed by you until the end of its next turn. |
| 5 | The unleashed magic taps into the creature’s darkest fears. It is considered Frightened by you until the end of its next turn. |
| 6 | Strands of Chaos Magic wrap around the creature, binding it into place. It is considered Grappled until the end of its next turn. |
| 7 | The creature is momentarily stunned by the Chaos Magic affecting it. It is considered Incapacitated until the end of its next turn. |
| 8 | A violent outburst of Chaos Magic slams into the creature, causing it to fall prone. |

Level 6: Empowered Chaos Dice
Starting at Level 6, whenever you give a Bardic Inspiration die to one of your allies, you may declare it as an Empowered Chaos Die. When adding this Inspiration die to one of their rolls, the ally in question may roll two dice instead, and pick the higher of the two.
The number rolled on an Empowered Chaos Die gets added to your Chaos Surge trigger.
Level 14: Chaos Mastery
Your control over the forces of chaos has grown, allowing you to bend them to your will
Purposeful Chaos
Once per long rest, you may cast a bard spell of a level up to your spellcasting ability modifier without using a spell slot. Using this feature immediately triggers a Chaos Surge.
Manipulate Chaos
When a Chaos Surge is triggered, after hearing the result, you can expend one of your Bardic Inspiration dice to force a reroll. Once you use this feature, you cannot use it again until you finish a long rest.
