Base Class: Warlock
You make a deal with a deity from the storm domain or with any background relating to lighting, granting you the ability to wield the pure lightning energy that is weaved throughout existence.
Level 3: Level 3 – Chain lightning spells
When you reach a Warlock level specified in the lightning patron spell list below you will always have those spells prepared
- Level 3:
- Level 5: Call lightning, Haste, Lightning Bolt
- Level 7: Freedom of Movement
- Level 9: Jallarzi’s Storm of Radiance, Conjure Elemental (lightning)
Additionally, whenever you cast a warlock spell you can convert all its damage into lightning damage. If you chose to do this and your spell crits, you can chain the spells damage to an additional creature within 30ft of the first.
Level 3 – Insulated Node
You gain resistance to lightning damage. Additionally, you can cause any of your chain lighting effects to chain back to you which causes you to take the spells damage (which you resist) but also explode in a violent arc. All creatures within 5ft of you receive the chained damage on a failed constitution saving throw (half as much on a successful save).
Level 6: Level 6 – Voltaic Hex
You can choose to convert your hex into lightning damage and doing so also causes it to chain its damage to an additional enemy you can see within 30ft of the original target whenever the hex deals damage.
Level 10: Level 10 – Marked for Disintegration
Whenever you upcast hex its damage also increases. For every two levels that the hex is upcast, it deals an additional 1D6 damage. (level 3 – 2D6 damage, level 5 – 3D6 damage). Additionally, your spells that target a hexed creature ignore resistance to lighting damage and critically hit on a dice roll of 19 or 20.
Level 14: Level 14 – Lightning network
Your lighting spells become more powerful and unstable. Whenever you deal lighting damage to a target you can use your reaction to immediately chain to two more enemies in sight, dealing 2D10 + Charisma lightning damage. Both these enemies and the initial target must succeed on a constitution saving throw or be stunned for 2 turns. You can use this ability a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, refreshing on long rest.
