Paladin
Base Class: Paladin

“Let my aim be true, my arrows swift, and my vow unbroken.”

Paladins who swear the Oath of the Arrow dedicate themselves to precision, grace, and righteous fury delivered from afar. They are divine marksmen—guardians who wield the bow not only as a weapon, but as a sacred conduit for their oath. Where others charge into battle clad in steel, these holy archers remain poised at a distance, their arrows guided by divine will, their strikes delivering radiant justice with unerring accuracy.

To take the Oath of the Arrow is to believe that distance does not diminish duty. These paladins stand watch from the ramparts, from the treeline, from the heavens themselves. Their presence is a promise: that none shall escape judgment, no matter how far they run or how well they hide.

Wreathed in golden light, their arrows carry blessings as well as wrath—shielding allies, punishing evildoers, and bringing light to the darkest corners of the battlefield. When they unleash their full power, the sky answers with radiant fury, and their arrows rain down like the judgment of the gods.

Tenets of the Arrow
Paladins who swear this oath live by a code of discipline, clarity, and vigilance.

  • Strike True. Let your aim never waver, and your intentions remain pure.

  • Watch the Horizon. Remain vigilant; threats are not always near.

  • Shield from Afar. Your arrow can protect as surely as it can punish.

  • Radiance in the Shadows. Bring light to hidden places and reveal what lurks in darkness.

Whether perched above a battlefield or gliding on radiant wings, a Paladin of the Oath of the Arrow is a symbol of precision, sanctity, and unrelenting resolve.

Level 3: Sacred Archer

Your Divine Smite and other 'Smite' spells may now be triggered after hitting a target with a Ranged Weapon Attack. Whenever you use a ranged weapon, if you load no ammunition in the weapon, it produces its own, automatically creating one piece of magic ammunition when you pull back the string. The ammunition created vanishes the instant after it hits or misses a target. Any time you use conjured ammunition, whether by this ability or via spells that are triggered as part of a ranged weapon attack, you deal Radiant damage.

You can expend one use of your Channel Divinity to conjure five Golden Arrows. These do an additional 1d8 Radiant damge, and vanish the instant after they hit or miss a target. When you use a Golden Arrow, you may designate one creature within 20ft of your target to gain the benefit of the Sanctuary spell.

Level 3: Oath of the Arrow Spells

The magic of your oath ensures you always have certain spells ready; when you reach a Paladin level specified in the Oath of the Arrow Spells table, you thereafter always have the listed spells prepared.

Note: Unfortunately due to Homebrew restrictions I can't add most of these to character sheets (except for the level 4 spells) because it blocks sharing with the community. If you like this subclass and you think DND Beyond homebrew should be a lot more flexible and easier to use, tell them how you feel in the forums!

Level 3: Steady Aim

As a bonus action, you give yourself advantage on your next attack roll on the current turn. You can use this bonus action only if you haven’t moved during this turn, and after you use the bonus action, your speed is 0 until the end of the current turn.

Level 7: Aura of Accuracy

Whenever you or an ally makes a ranged weapon attack from within your Aura of Protection, the range of the attack doubles, has a +2 bonus to attack rolls, and ignores half and three-quarters cover.

Level 15: Winged Defender

As a Bonus Action, you can cause angelic wings to appear on your back. The wings last for 1 hour or until you dismiss them (no action required). For the duration, you have a Fly Speed of 60 feet. For the duration your attack rolls with ranged weapons can score a Critical Hit on a roll of 19 or 20 on the d20.

You can use this feature a number of times equal to your Charisma modifier (minimum of once), and you regain all expended uses when you finish a Long Rest.

Level 20: Dawnbringer

Whenever you use your Sacred Archer ability to conjure Golden Arrows, you conjure 20 instead of 5. Your Golden Arrows also become more powerful:

  • Their bonus damage increases to 2d8.
  • Any time you make a ranged weapon attack, you may fire two Golden Arrows at the same time. These can hit the same target or different targets.
  • If you deal a Critical Hit with a Golden Arrow, you create a 30-foot-radius, 40-foot-high cylinder of bright light centered on your target. This light is sunlight. Each enemy who enters this cylinder or starts its turn there must make a Constitution saving throw, taking 4d10 Radiant damage on a failed save, or half as much damage on a successful one. This column of light dims at the beginning of your next turn. Overlapping cylinders stack, increasing the intensity of the light and dealing their damage separately.
