Base Class: Druid
Druids of the Circle of Living Ironwood call upon the ancient spirits of groves, glades, and deep-rooted oaks to transform themselves into living weapons. Rather than shifting fully into beasts, they partially shape themselves with wood and bark, growing enchanted limbs, thorned fists, or bark-covered hides infused with primal magic. These druids are warriors of nature—not wild predators, but guardians and enforcers, like the great trees themselves.
Whether you're manifesting a gnarled arm that strikes with the strength of oak, or hardening your skin into bark-plate in the midst of battle, the Circle of the Wood gives you the tools to stand firm in melee combat and embody nature's unyielding resilience.
Level 3: Warrior of the Ironwood
You form a pact with that grants you access to enchanted arms and armor made of Living Ironwood.
As a Bonus Action, you can grow a wooden pact weapon in your hand—a Club, Quarterstaff or a Greatclub with which you bond—or create a bond with a magic Club, Quarterstaff or Greatclub you touch; you can’t bond with a magic weapon if someone else is attuned to it or another Druid is bonded with it. You can also use this ritual to grow a wooden suit of pact armor of your choice around your body--e.g., Plate Armor--or create a bond with magic armor you touch, which transforms into dense ironwood. Until the bond ends, you have proficiency with the weapon and armor, and you can use the weapon as a Spellcasting Focus. You can grow both the weapon and the armor with the same Bonus Action.
Whenever you attack with the bonded weapon, you can use your Wisdom modifier for the attack and damage rolls instead of using Strength or Dexterity, and you can cause the weapon to deal Force, Acid or Poison damage or its normal damage type, and your Armor gains a bonus to AC equal to your Proficiency Bonus.
Your weapon damage increases as you gain levels. See the Cantrip Ironwood Shillelagh (homebrew). Due to limitations with homebrew, I've added Guidance instead; go pick up that Cantrip!
Your bond with the weapon or armor ends if you form a pact with a different weapon and armor, if they are more than 5 feet away from you for 1 minute or more, or if you die. Conjured weapons and armor disappear when the bond ends, and magic arms and armor revert to their normal state.
Level 3: Treant Warrior
As a Bonus Action, you can expend a use of your Wild Shape feature to take on the form of a living tree.
While in your Treant form, you retain your game statistics, but your body grows large and woody. While in this form, you gain the following benefits:
Treant Statue. Your reach increases by 5 feet, and if you are smaller than Large, you become Large, along with anything you are wearing. If there isn't enough room for you to increase your size, your size doesn't change.
Photosynthesis. You gain Temporary Hit Points equal to 3 × your Druid level. Each turn you begin fully immersed in daylight in daylight, you heal 5 HP. If at full health, this instead restores Temporary Hit Points, up to a maximum of 3 × your Druid level.
Thorns. Thorns emerge from your pact armor, causing it to become covered with spikes. You can make one melee weapon attack with your armor spikes against a target within 10 feet of you. If the attack hits, the spikes deal 1d4 damage. When you initiate a grapple, and every time a creature starts its turn while being grappled by you, it takes damage equal to your Proficiency Bonus damage. The damage you do can be Piercing, Force, Acid or Poison (your choice).
Extra Attack
You can attack twice, instead of once, whenever you take the Attack action on your turn, and you can cast a damage dealing Cantrip in place of one of those attacks. Additionally, now you deal your thorns damage every time you hit with a melee weapon attack.
Level 10: Bramble Thicket
While in your Treant form, the ground around you in a 10 foot radius becomes difficult terrain for enemies, and enemies take your Thorns damage when entering this terrain or starting their turn there, instead of just when grappled.
Level 14: Ancient Sequoia
Your Treant form grows even larger. Your reach and the radius of your Bramble Thicket ability increases to 15 feet, your size can increase to Large or Huge (your choice), you make Constitution saving throws with advantage, and any time a creature takes damage from your Thorns, it must make a Constitution Saving Throw (DC 15) or become Poisoned until the end of their next turn.
