Base Class: Sorcerer
Some beings wield magic like a torch—blazing, singular, and proud. But the Mirrorborn of Lustria know better. To them, magic is not a thing you own. It is a voice that echoes from within, from the layered recesses of your soul, through the filters of identity, memory, and reflection.
Among these enigmatic changelings, a rare few do not simply wear Masks. They are made of them—woven from the very threads of the Veil, the twilight boundary between the material world and the Feywild. These few are known as the Souls of the Veil, sorcerers born not of bloodlines, but of fractured dreams and starlit mirrors.
Their power stems from Thyrna, the Forgotten Maskmother—a deity exiled from memory, whose only temple is the face one wears when no one is looking. Her magic is ancient and soft-spoken, but profound. It seeps into the Mirrorborn like morning mist, manifesting not in fireballs or thunderclaps, but in the quiet substitution of a truth, in a forgotten name remembered, in the whisper of a face you’ve never seen before—but somehow know.
These sorcerers don’t explode across battlefields. They unfold—layer by layer, persona by persona—until the battlefield is no longer certain what’s real.
To be a Soul of the Veil is to be a vessel of selves. Each spell is cast not with willpower, but with the voice of a different you. A joyful you. A terrified you. A wrathful you. A forgotten child, a dead friend, a long-abandoned dream. You are all of them, and none.
And in that fractured beauty, you are whole.
🌓 Magic Through Identity
Where most sorcerers rely on raw magical inheritance, Souls of the Veil channel their sorcery through Masks—identities cultivated like sacred tools. Each Mask you wear may enhance your spellcasting, alter your presence in social situations, or even take your place on the battlefield as a shimmering echo.
Illusions, enchantments, and manipulation of perception are your specialty. Your power does not lie in brute force, but in destabilizing the truth: forcing enemies to question what is real, whom they are fighting, and even who you are.
Your mere presence on the battlefield becomes unsettling. Are you the confident noblewoman speaking calmly through a veil of charm? Are you the terrified prisoner they thought they saw moments ago? Or are you none of them—just a Mask echoing another Mask?
🌒 Place in Lustrian Culture
Among the Mirrorborn communities of the Virellian Veil, Souls of the Veil are holy figures and dangerous outcasts. Some serve as dream-priests, guiding their people through ritual identity death and rebirth, crafting new Faces for grief-stricken widows, failed kings, or cursed children.
Others serve darker roles: memory-assassins, fey-couriers, or archivists of forbidden selves. Rumors speak of Soulborn sorcerers who carry so many personas that their original identity has long since died, but their body continues—animated by layered wills.
Among mortals, these sorcerers are deeply mistrusted. No court in Lustria would dare employ a Soul of the Veil without heavy safeguards, yet none can resist the power of having one in their service—able to become anyone, infiltrate anywhere, or rewrite perception itself.
Level 18: Fractured Self
You are no longer a single being, but a constellation of selves.
-
As an action, you may split into 3 Mask Personas simultaneously for 1 minute, each acting as illusions with partial presence.
-
These illusions are semi-corporeal echoes, not full clones. Each one:
-
Can move up to 30 ft per turn on your command.
-
Can cast a cantrip you know once per turn (as if cast by you, but it must be a different target than your real self).
-
Has your AC and HP equal to 1/4 your total HP.
-
Vanishes when it takes damage or you end the effect early.
-
While active:
-
You have resistance to all psychic damage.
-
You may choose disadvantage on attack rolls against you once per round.
This feature can be used once per long rest or by spending 6 sorcery points.
Level 14: Mask Weaving
-
When you cast a spell that targets only yourself, you may choose to have it also target one of your Mask Personas, stored in your soul.
-
This grants you a “stored spell” effect. Once in the next hour, you may recast that spell without expending a spell slot—but you must change your identity (via Face of the Forgotten or Echoing Persona) when you do.
In addition:
-
You are immune to Zone of Truth, Detect Thoughts, and Mind Reading unless you choose to allow it.
-
Divination spells targeting you instead reveal one of your Personas, unless the caster succeeds on a Wisdom (Arcana) check vs your spell save DC.
Level 6: Living Illusion
When a creature hits you with an attack, you can use your reaction to unleash a mask echo in your place:
-
The attacker must make a Charisma saving throw (DC = 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Charisma mod).
-
On a failure, the attack misses, and the creature is confused by a flickering illusion of your other Face until the start of your next turn (they have disadvantage on the next saving throw or attack roll).
-
On a success, the illusion flickers but does not affect the strike.
You can use this feature once per short or long rest, or expend 2 sorcery points to use it again.
Level 3: Mirrorborn Spells
| Sorcerer Level | Mirrorborn Spells |
|---|---|
| 1st | Disguise Self, Dissonant Whispers |
| 3rd | Mirror Image, Phantasmal Force |
| 5th | Hypnotic Pattern, Counterspell |
| 7th | Greater Invisibility, Hallucinatory Terrain |
| 9th | Mislead, Dream |
Level 3: Echoing Persona
-
As a bonus action, you may manifest one of your Mask Personas (racial feature) for 1 minute. While manifested:
-
You gain temporary HP equal to your Sorcerer level.
-
Once per turn, when you cast a sorcerer spell of 1st level or higher, you may change your voice, posture, or appearance subtly, gaining advantage on one Charisma (Deception, Persuasion, or Intimidation) check until the end of your next turn.
-
You may use this feature a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, regaining all uses on a long rest.
