Barbarian
Base Class: Barbarian

Barbarians who follow the Path of the Totem Warrior channel animal spirits as part of their rage. For those who choose the Bear, they embody the primal resilience of that beast. While raging, they gain tremendous toughness, and their bond with the spirit of the bear grants them supernatural endurance and power.

The Bear totem spirit is not merely about brute strength—it represents silent guardianship, defense of the weak, and the deep, soulful endurance of nature. These warriors often form spiritual ties with their chosen totem, and through meditation, ritual, or personal questing, they grow stronger and more attuned to the creature’s essence.

For Darven Stonebrook, the bear totem is more than a symbol—it is a guide through grief, rage, and purpose. His connection is spiritual and ancestral, shaped by trauma and loyalty.

Totem Spirit (Bear)

At 3rd level when you choose the Path of the Totem Warrior, you can select the Bear totem as your spirit guide. While you're raging, you gain resistance to all damage except psychic. This reflects the bear’s physical resilience and spiritual toughness. Whether battered by flame, ice, lightning, or blade, you shrug off the worst of it, becoming a living fortress in combat. To honor the bond, you must craft a totem object—like a bear claw, fur, bone carving, or a stone charm. This object represents your communion with the spirit and is a symbolic source of your strength.

Aspect of the Beast (Bear

When you reach 6th level, your attunement to the bear deepens. Your physical might grows beyond mortal limits. Your carrying capacity doubles—including how much you can carry, drag, lift, and push. In addition, you gain advantage on all Strength checks made to push, pull, lift, or break objects. You don’t need to be raging to benefit from this feature. It reflects the enduring strength and grounded nature of the bear spirit within you, even in calm moments.

Spirit Walker

At 10th level, your bond with nature and the spirit realm allows you to cast commune with nature as a ritual. You don’t need to expend a spell slot to do so. When you perform this ritual, the bear spirit appears to you in your mind’s eye—perhaps as a great spectral beast in a forest or a deep voice in your dreams. The spirit reveals knowledge about the surrounding area, terrain, natural features, and creatures, often in symbolic or emotional impressions. This connection allows you to consult the ancient wisdom of the land through your totem guide.

Totemic Attunement (Bear)

At 14th level, while you’re raging, creatures within 5 feet of you that are hostile have disadvantage on attack rolls against targets other than you. This feature applies only if a creature is within melee range of you. The effect represents your overwhelming presence and threat—enemies instinctively feel the need to strike at you, not your allies. This is the ultimate manifestation of the bear spirit’s protective nature. You stand like a mountain between your companions and harm, absorbing punishment no one else could endure.
