Paladin
Base Class: Paladin

The Oath of Burden is guided by principles of selflessness and devotion.

  • Shield the Weak: If you can take the hit so another doesn’t have to, you must.

  • Suffer with Purpose: Pain is not meaningless if it protects someone else.

  • Family by Choice: Bonds of love, loyalty, or duty are sacred and must be honored.

  • Endure Unflinching: When others falter, you must hold the line.

Level 3: Oath of Burden Spells

The magic of your oath ensures you always have certain spells ready; when you reach a Paladin level specified in the Oath of Devotion Spells table, you thereafter always have the listed spells prepared.

Oath of Devotion Spells
Paladin Level Spells
3 Sanctuary, Shield of Faith
5 Warding Bond, Enhance Ability
9 Beacon of Hope, Counterspell
13 Aura of Life, Resilient Sphere
17 Wall of Force, Greater Restoration

Level 3: Channel Divinity

When you take this oath at 3rd level, you gain the following Channel Divinity options:

1. Carry the Weight:
As a reaction when a creature within 30 feet of you takes damage, you can use your Channel Divinity to take that damage instead (no action required by them). The damage is transferred to you, bypassing resistances or immunities, and you cannot reduce it with resistance. You may choose to divide the damage between yourself and the original target as you see fit.

2. Vow of Endurance:
As an action, you can use your Channel Divinity to bolster your resolve. For 1 minute, you gain temporary hit points equal to your paladin level at the start of each of your turns and advantage on Constitution saving throws.

You can use only one Channel Divinity option per turn, and you must choose which one to use when you activate it.
You regain all expended uses of Channel Divinity when you finish a long rest.

At 3rd level, you can use Channel Divinity once per long rest. The number of uses increases to two at 6th level and three at 18th level.

Level 7: Aura of Solace

Your presence is a balm against pain. You and friendly creatures within 10 feet of you have resistance to psychic damage and cannot be frightened while conscious.

At 18th level, the range of this aura increases to 30 feet.

Level 15: Unbreakable Burden

When a creature you can see within 30 feet would be reduced to 0 hit points, you can use your reaction to take the overflow damage yourself. The creature instead drops to 1 hit point. You must make a Constitution saving throw (DC = damage taken or 10, whichever is higher) or fall prone and stunned until the end of your next turn.

You can use this feature a number of times equal to your Charisma modifier per long rest.

Level 20: Living Bastion

You become a paragon of protection, an immovable guardian against all harm. As an action, you can assume this form for 1 minute:

  • You emit a 30-foot aura of protective might. Allies within the aura gain resistance to all damage types.

  • Whenever an ally within the aura is targeted by an attack or spell, they can use your AC in place of their own if it's higher.

  • You cannot be moved, frightened, or incapacitated during this time.

  • At the start of each of your turns, you regain hit points equal to your Charisma modifier + half your paladin level.

Once you use this feature, you can’t use it again until you finish a long rest.
