Base Class: Barbarian
The Path of the Reforged Blade is one of centuries past, countless battles fought, quests completed, and foes slain. Those who walk it tread a line of nigh-immortality, as they cannot die from natural causes. Their chosen weapon, the one that has stuck with them through lifetimes of encounters, reflects their experience, with it being riddled with golden cracks and seams that seem to pulse with the blessing that keeps this Barbarian alive.
The warrior unsheathes his blade, each gilded crack along its edges a reminder of how long he has lived, how many battles he has fought.. and his exhaustion and weariness grows by the day. Despite his eternal natural lifespan, he becomes more and more fed up with this life every time he pulls the blade from the scabbard. Every time he strikes a foe down, he mutters this old phrase: “That paradise may end up unreachable for me.. savor it in my place.”
The vengeful soldier continues his search, his ancient spearhead crackling with the very magic that has kept him in his peak state for so long. He wishes to find something that can bolster his nigh-immortality, to make himself truly eternal, to the point where not even his corrupt general can stand a chance. As he scours the cave he’s discovered, he utters this: “Those tranquil emerald eyes.. shall be hunted through even the kindest of paradises.”
The outcast’s naginata sparks with the light of the blessing preserving their body, their horns reflecting the accursed glow. As they sharpen their naginata, watching it shatter and reform its blade once more, they feel the exhaustion of centuries beginning to catch up. The countless corpses they’ve left in their wake weigh on their soul, their guilt nearly crushing. They quietly speak to themselves, hoping that this time, when they close their eyes, they won’t open again.
Level 3: Pandora’s Seeping Blessing
As a bonus action, you can shatter part of your weapon and give it the ‘Fracturing’ property. If you successfully land an attack with your weapon while it has this property, the shattered shard of your weapon embeds itself into the target of the attack, dealing 1d6 piercing damage whenever that enemy makes an action. This bonus action can be used up to 2 times before your weapon gains the ‘Shattered’ property, which makes it into an improvised weapon, causing it to only deal 1d4 damage until it is repaired. Each time the weapon is repaired, add a -1 penalty to each die rolled for the weapon’s damage, unless you spend at least 4 hours repairing the weapon. After you spend at least 4 hours repairing the weapon, if it has at least one -1 penalty, remove one of the penalties.
Undying One’s Grandeur: Death Sentence
Starting at level 14, if you have taken at least 30 points of damage while in Centuries’ Worth of Rage, as a reaction to a melee attack, you can perform a melee attack with your weapon directed towards any enemy in melee range, and if the attack lands, add half the total damage you took before using this reaction to the damage roll. This feature can be used twice per long rest, but the damage quota resets after each use.
Accursed Restoration
Starting at 6th level, up to twice per long or short rest, as a bonus action, you can gain 2d6 temporary hit points. If your Centuries’ Worth of Rage ends the turn after you use this feature, the temporary hit points you gained become permanent healing. The amount of dice rolled by this feature goes up by 2d6 every fourth level.
Level 10: Bygone Fragmentation
Starting at level 10, when you land an attack with your chosen melee weapon, you can shatter it fully to cause it to burst, making shards fly from the point of impact and dealing 1d8 damage normally, but 2d8 damage while your Centuries’ Worth of Rage is active. When you do this, your weapon gains the ‘Shattered’ property, turning it into an improvised weapon that deals 1d4 damage. Every fourth level after you obtain this feature, an additional 1d8 is added to the normal variation of this feature, and an additional 2d8 is added to the version that is used while you’re in Centuries’ Worth of Rage.
Cruel Sword Forest
When you gain this feature at level 10, the dice you use for improvised weapon and unarmed strike damage becomes 1d6. Every third level, you upgrade the die gained with this feature. At level 13, it becomes a d8. At level 16, it becomes a d10. At level 19, it becomes a d12.
Centuries’ Worth of Rage
This replaces your default Rage, giving you advantage on saving throws against the spells Suggestion, Mass Suggestion, Enthrall, and Eyebite while in Rage. This Rage variant also lasts two minutes instead of one, but you must take or deal certain amounts of damage during your turn and before your next one to maintain it. At the third level, it requires ten damage to maintain. At sixth level, it requires 15. At twelfth level, it requires 25. At seventeenth level, it requires 35 total damage before your next turn.
Level 3: Neglect of Ancients Past
When you perform a damage roll with your weapon affected by the “Pandora’s Seeping Blessing” feature, you can sacrifice 1d6 of your own Hit Points to add the result to your damage roll. This goes up by 1d6 every fourth level.
