Base Class: Paladin
Paladins who swear the Oath of the Outlaw Hero walk the line between law and legend. They are gunslingers of justice, vengeance, or freedom—champions who wield firearms as their sacred instruments. Whether protecting the innocent or hunting the wicked, their aim is true, and their will is iron.
Tenets of the Outlaw Hero
These principles guide an Outlaw Hero paladin:
-
Justice at Any Cost: The guilty must face judgment, even if the law cannot reach them.
-
Freedom Above All: Chains—be they literal or metaphorical—must be broken.
-
Steadfast Aim: Your focus is unyielding; your aim must always be true.
-
Courage in the Shadows: Stand against tyranny and evil, even when alone.
Playstyle Overview:
The Oath of the Outlaw Hero combines the righteous might of a paladin with the precision and flair of a gunslinger. You’re designed for high mobility, ranged combat, and dramatic, cinematic moments—perfect for a lone hero standing against injustice, riding into battle with your firearm blazing.
Level 3: Gunslinger Proficiency
When you take this oath at 3rd level, you gain the following abilities:
-
Firearm Proficiency: You gain proficiency with firearms, including pistols, rifles, and other small-bore firearms suitable for your setting.
-
Sharpshooter Training: Your proficiency bonus is added to attack rolls made with firearms. Additionally, you ignore the loading property of firearms you are proficient with.
-
Quick Draw: You can draw or stow a firearm as part of the same action used to attack with it.
Optional Flavor: Your deity may have blessed your bullets, turning each shot into a righteous strike against the wicked.
Level 3: Outlaw’s Judgment
When you hit a creature with a firearm attack, you can invoke your divine presence to mark them as a target of your righteous focus. The effect lasts until the start of your next turn. While marked:
-
You have advantage on the next firearm attack against the target before the end of your next turn.
-
The target has disadvantage on any attack rolls against creatures other than you.
-
You can expend 1 use of your Channel Divinity (if you choose to add a synergy) to force the target to move up to 10 feet closer to you or away from an ally, representing your ability to manipulate their positioning with deadly precision.
Usage: You can use this feature a number of times equal to your Charisma modifier (minimum 1). All expended uses are regained after a long rest.
Level 7: Evasive Maneuver
At 7th level, your experience as a gunslinger allows you to dodge danger with precision.
-
When a creature you can see targets you with an attack, you can use your reaction to impose disadvantage on the attack. You can use this ability a number of times equal 1+ your Charisma modifier (minimum 1). All expended uses are regained after a long rest.
Level 15: Gunfighter’s Resolve
At 15th level, your mastery of firearms and divine focus allows you to unleash powerful shots, but only a limited number of times.
-
Deadeye Precision: When you make an attack with a firearm, you can expend 1 charge to gain advantage on the attack roll. If the attack hits, the target takes additional radiant damage equal to your Charisma modifier.
-
Rapid Fire: When you take the Attack action with a firearm, you can expend 1 charge to make one additional firearm attack as part of that action.
You have a number of charges equal to your Charisma modifier (minimum 1). All expended charges are regained after a long rest.
Level 20: Outlaw Hero’s Wrath
At 20th level, you become a legend of the frontier.
