Base Class: Ranger
Swarmkeeper except a bit more flavored towards managing a swarm. Tailored for bees but can be configured to work for whatever else.
Level 3: Called swarm
You have to roll in order to determine the max size of the swarm at the start of long rest. Roll 2d6 to determine the size of your swarm
- 2-3: small swarm
- 4-7: medium swarm
- 8-10: large swarm
- 11-12: huge swarm
Using a bonus action, you can cause the swarm to assist you in one of the following ways:
- When you next attack, the attack’s target takes extra damage depending on the size of your current swarm (1d4 small/ 1d6 medium / 1d8 large/ 1d10 huge) and if they fail a Dex save against your spell save DC they have disadvantage on any saves to maintain concentration and their attack as they are surrounded by bees lasts until the end of the affected creature's next turn.
- Depending on the size of your current swarm you can have your swarm block (gain temp hp) incoming damage (1d6 small/ 1d8 medium / 1d10 large/ 1d12 huge), You can only use this ability a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, you regain all expended uses after a long rest
- You send your swarm to occupy a 10-foot square causing it to become difficult terrain and half cover, you can have a number of these active based on the size of your max swarm (0 small,1 medium,2 large,3 huge). These areas don't affect flying creatures and last 2 rounds or until your swarm reaches a current size of small, whichever comes first.
Each time you use one of these abilities you lose a size of your swarm as they disperse. Once the swarm has decreased in size, you can use a bonus action to call more for your swarm. This will increase your swarm one size.
Level 3: Biodiverse Swarm
When rolling for the size of your swarm, you can determine what type of bees you have. Roll a d6, your swarm's damage type changes according to the number rolled.
- Bludgeoning
- Slashing
- Piercing
- Poison
- Necrotic
- Acid
Level 7: Writhing Tide
As a bonus action, you gain a flying speed based on the size of your swarm (5ft small/10ft medium/15ft large/20ft Huge) and can hover. Immediately after using this, you do not provoke opportunity attacks until your following turn. This effect lasts for 1 minute or until you are incapacitated.
You can use this feature a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, and you regain all expended uses when you finish a long rest.
Level 11: Mighty Swarm
Your Gathered Swarm grows mightier in the following ways:
- The damage of Called Swarm increases to 1d6/1d8/1d10/1d12.
- The damage blocking of Called Swarm increases to 2d6/2d8/2d10/2d12
- You are able to make more bee squares that are larger or of greater density; you can choose if they are a 15-foot square or if they provide three-fourths cover.
Level 15: Swarming Dispersal
When you take damage, you can use your reaction to give yourself resistance to that damage. You vanish into your swarm and then teleport to an unoccupied space that you can see within 30 feet of you, where you reappear with the swarm.
You can use this feature a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, and you regain all expended uses when you finish a long rest.
