Base Class: Fighter

Soul Swords have honed their connections to their weapons so deeply that they have become able to communicate with the souls held within them. Soul Swords believe that each weapon has it's own soul, with a unique mind, personality, and temperament. By tapping into this soul, they connect deeply with their weapon and the weapon is able to aid them in battle. Those that focus on this archetype are able to become one with their weapons, making their attacks more fluid and accurate.

Blade Whisperer

Beginning when you choose this archetype at level 3, your connection with your weapons has reach a depth that allows you to communicate with the souls within them. Using this feature, as a bonus action you can touch a weapon to form a connection with it, provided that you have spent at least 10 minutes studying the weapon at some point in the past. As long as you are touching the weapon, you can telepathically communicate with the weapon's soul. The connection transcends language, and both parties can communicate with each other regardless of what languages are known. The connection remains as long as the weapon is within 5ft of you, though you can only telepathically communicate if you are physically touching. The connection is severed if the weapon gets further than 5ft from you or you use a bonus action to drop the connection.

You can use this feature to connect with up to 2 weapons at once, and if you attempt to forge a connection with a new weapon while you already have 2 that you are connected to, you choose which of the 2 other connections to drop. You can use this feature a number of times equal to your Proficiency Bonus plus your Wisdom Modifier (minimum of 1), and you regain all expended uses after a Long Rest.

Agonizing Cries

Beginning when you take this archetype at 3rd level, your connections with your weapons allow you to affect your enemies minds.

When you hit a creature with a weapon attack using a weapon that you are connected to, you can use this feature to add 2d6 psychic damage to your attack as your weapon's soul screams into the mind of your enemy as it comes into contact with them. After using this feature, you must take a long rest to be able to use it again. The number of available uses increases to 2 at level 8, 3 at level 13 and 4 at level 18.

Room of Voices

At 7th level, your connection with weapons extends beyond just touch. You can hear the faint whispers of the weapons around you even if you aren't connected with them.

You gain advantage on all perception and investigation checks (provided there is a weapon in your vicinity) as the weapons whisper secrets to you and point out hidden things. You also gain immunity to surprise provided you aren't unconscious or otherwise incapacitated as your weapon whispers in warning when you get attacked.

Battle Aid

Beginning at 10th level, the connection you have forged with your weapon has grown deep enough that they have begun to assist you in battle as well. If you are touching a weapon you have forged a connection with, you can use this feature to do one of these options:

Duck!  The weapon warns you of an incoming strike. If an enemy hits you with and attack roll you can use your reaction to force them to reroll the attack and use the lower of the two rolls.

Strike There!  The weapon studies the enemy and points out its weakness to you. As a bonus action you can use this feature to give your next attack advantage.

The Safe Path  The weapon is able to help guide you on a safe path through a sea of enemies. Using this feature you can use a bonus action to take the disengage action.

You can use this feature a number of times equal to your wisdom modifier (minimum of 1), and all uses reset after a long rest.

Soul Assimilation

Starting at 15th level, the connection with your weapon has become so deep that your minds have become one in the same and can assist you against mental attacks. While you have a connection with a weapon, you gain resistance against psychic damage as another mind helps alleviate your pain.

Blade Speaker

Starting at 18th level, you have become a master at connecting to the souls held within weapons. With this new mastery you gain the following features:

  • The number of weapons you can be psychically connected to at once using the Blade Whisperer feature increases to 3.
  • There is no longer a limit on the number of times you can use the Blade Whisperer feature.
  • Your connection with your weapons is so strong that distance is no longer able to break it. You maintain your connection with your weapons provided they are within 1 mile of you and on the same plane.
  • Your Agonizing Cries feature increases to 5d6.
  • All attacks of opportunity against you have disadvantage.
