Base Class: Barbarian
Your fury is not born from primal instinct, but from volatile brews you force into your body. Each rage is triggered by a mutagen of your own design, mutating your body in unstable, often terrifying ways.
Level 3: Mutagenic Rage
When you choose this path at 3rd level, your rage is fueled by unstable alchemical mutations. While raging and not wearing armor, you gain the normal benefits of rage. Additionally, when you enter a rage, you manifest one of the following Mutagenic Effects of your choice.
Amorphous Flesh. Consuming this mutagen has weakened the bonds holding your form together, resulting in your body becoming more elastic. Your jump distance is doubled, you can squeeze through spaces as if two sizes smaller, and your melee weapon attacks gain +5 feet reach.
Shifting Carapace. You manifest insect-like chitin plates that guard the most vulnerable weak points. While raging, you gain a +2 bonus to AC, and when a creature you can see hits you with a melee attack, you can use your reaction to gain an additional +2 AC against that attack.
Vile Claws. Your hands warp into claws, spines or other growths. Melee: Your claws count as simple melee weapons, dealing 1d4 slashing + 1d4 acid on a hit. Ranged: You can hurl caustic spines (range 40/80 ft), dealing 1d4 piercing + 1d4 acid.
Volatile Core. Corrosive bile begins to build up within you and can be expelled through a mouth manifesting on any exposed part of your body. As a Bonus Action you can expel a burst of corrosive acid in a 15 foot cone from your mouth or body. When you do so each creature in the cone must succeed a Dexterity saving throw (DC 8+ your Constitution modifier and Proficiency Bonus). On a failed save, a creature will take acid damage equal to 1d4 multiplied by your Rage Damage. This may be done a number of times equal to your constitution modifier.
Adaptive Mutagen
When you enter a rage, your unstable mutation grants you resistance to poison damage and advantage on saving throws against being poisoned.
In addition when raging roll a d8 to determine a random adaptive mutation.
1. Toxic Aura. Creatures that start their turn within 5 feet of you take acid damage equal to your Rage Damage.
2. Barbed Hide. When a creature hits you with a melee attack it takes 1d4 piercing damage.
3. Abberant Reflexes. When a creature ends its turn within 5 feet of you, you may use your reaction to make a weapon attack against it.
4. Skittering Speed. Your walking speed increases by 15 feet.
5. Distorting Aura. Your form shimmers with unstable magic from deepest reaches of far off realms. Attack rolls make within 5 feet of you are made at disadvantage until the start of your next turn.
6. Unstable Mutation. Roll twice on this table. Both results occur simultaneously, and you take a number of d4s of psychic damage equal to your Barbarian level.
Enhanced Volatility
Enhanced Effects
Adaptive mutagen. While raging, you gain a damage type to which you gain resistance in addition to your other resistances while raging from the following list: acid, cold, fire, or lightning.
Vile Claws. You now deal more damage when attacking with your natural weapons. On a hit, you now deal 1d6 slashing + 1d6 acid. In addition, you can make one additional attack with your claws or manifested protrusion as a bonus action while raging.
Amorphous Flesh. You ignore difficult terrain while raging and gain a climb, swim, or burrow speed equal to half your movement by manifesting mutations to your existing appendages.
Shifting Carapace. Your AC bonus increases to +3 while raging. When you use your reaction, you gain temporary hit points equal to your constitution modifier
Volatile Core. Your acid spray now uses a 20ft cone, and the damage dice increase by +1 per Rage Damage for that use.
Dual Mutations
Select two mutations when you rage, one Major Mutation and one Minor Mutation.
Major mutation. Grants full benefits of mutation.
Minor mutation. Provides passive features of selected mutation and any active use can be used a number of times equal to half of your Proficiency Bonus (round down).
Level 14: Mutagenic Transference
Your body’s unstable mutagen reaches its apex, allowing you to distill your mutated essence into a volatile form that can be used offensively or defensively.
