Base Class: Cleric
Those who eat the rare and bitter Straw Fruit are forever changed. Said to have first grown where a dying harvest god’s blood touched the soil, the fruit weaves the eater’s soul with straw and curse. Most who taste it perish, their bodies unraveling into husks—but a chosen few awaken as Strawbound clerics.
These clerics can craft straw dolls infused with fragments of stolen souls, transferring harm meant for them into their effigies. As their power grows, they learn to embody the curse fully, becoming a towering Straw Horror that punishes enemies with their own blows.
Strawbound clerics are feared and revered in equal measure—protectors who can shoulder pain for their allies, yet also living effigies who remind all that suffering can be shared.

Strawbound Effigies
3rd Level Feature
You can craft straw dolls infused with fragments of your divine power.
-
Dolls Created: You create 1 doll after a short rest and 2 dolls after a long rest. At level 15, you can create 3 dolls per long rest and 2 dolls per short rest. (Maximum of 6 dolls)
-
Binding: When you hit a creature with a weapon attack or damaging spell, you can bind their soul to one of your dolls (no action required). Each doll may be bound to one creature at a time.
-
Doll HP: Each doll has 20 hit points, increasing by 10 per cleric level.
-
Damage Transfer: While you have bound dolls, you take no damage from attacks. Instead, all damage is dealt to the dolls as temporary hit points.
-
Soul Link: Each point of HP lost by a doll also deals the same amount of damage (ignoring resistance and immunity) to the creature linked to it.
-
Backlash: When a doll is reduced to 0 HP, the linked creature takes additional backlash damage equal to 2d8 + your Wisdom modifier.
Channel Divinity: Effigy’s Curse
3rd Level Feature
As an action, you present your holy symbol and target one creature bound to your doll within 30 feet. The target must succeed on a Constitution saving throw or become Cursed for 1 minute.
-
While cursed, the creature has disadvantage on attack rolls and saving throws against your cleric spells.
-
At the start of each of their turns, they also take necrotic damage equal to your Wisdom modifier.
Channel Divinity: Effigy’s Curse

Straw Horror
6th Level Feature
Once per long rest as a bonus action, you can transform into a Straw Horror, a large twisted effigy of straw and divine malice, for 1 minute.
-
You gain resistance to all damage except radiant damage, to which you are vulnerable, and immunity to necrotic damage.
- Taunting Presence: Hostile Creatures within 30 ft must make a Wisdom saving throw or be forced to use their entire action to attack the Straw Horror.
-
Whenever a creature hits you with a melee or spell attack, you take only half the damage, and the attacker suffers damage equal to the full amount they dealt (ignores resistance and immunity).
-
If this form is reduced to 0 HP, you unleash a devastating backlash. All enemies within 30 feet must succeed on a Constitution saving throw (DC = your Cleric Spell Save DC) or take 4d10 necrotic damage (half as much on a success).
Straw of Death
Grants you the ability to transform a creature that you killed into a straw doll, cursing its soul to eternal torture.
- If you have a damaged doll, when you kill a creature, you will absorb its soul and repair one of your damaged dolls.
- While in Straw Horror form, when you kill a creature, their body and soul will be sucked into the Straw Horror, turning them into a new straw doll.
Straw of Life
Grants you the ability to heal a portion of the damage you deal.
- If you deal melee weapon damage to a creature linked to one of your dolls, you will be healed by half of the damage you deal.
- In your Straw Horror form, you will be healed if you make a melee attack, even if that creature is not linked to a doll, because you are the doll.
Master of Strings
17th Level Feature
Your control over life and death through the dolls is absolute.
-
You can create 3 dolls per long rest and 2 dolls per short rest.
-
The backlash damage when a doll is destroyed becomes 6d8 + your Wisdom modifier.
-
While in Straw Horror Form, enemies damaged by your retaliation must also make a Strength saving throw (DC = your Spell Save DC) or be knocked prone.
- When the Straw Horror form HP reached 0, the backlash damage increased to 5d10 + your Wisdom modifier.
