Bard
Base Class: Bard

Bards of the College of the Jolly Roger are sailors, swashbucklers, and pirate-lords who carry the rhythm of the sea in their blood. They are as quick with a shanty as they are with a blade, weaving magic into the cadence of crashing waves and creaking rigging. To such bards, the ocean is not only a home but also a stage, and every voyage is a performance where courage, revelry, and terror blend into song.

Where others see piracy, the Jolly Roger bard sees freedom. Their voices rally crews against hopeless odds, their laughter drowns out fear, and their legends spread like wildfire from tavern to tavern, port to port. They strike fear into their enemies even as they bolster their comrades with boundless bravado. Whether they command an entire fleet or simply lead a ragtag band of adventurers, bards of this college live for the roar of the tide, the thrill of the fight, and the promise of their names echoing forever in song.

Call of the Sea

Your bond with the sea grants you talents suited for a life of freedom and salt air. You gain proficiency with Vehicles (Water) and Navigator's Tools. You gain proficiency in Nature or Survival and can add your Charisma modifier (minimum of +1) to any Nature or Survival checks you make, in addition to the normal ability modifier.

Shanty

With a defiant song, chant, or booming laugh, you rouse your allies and chill your foes to the bone. As an action, you can expend one use of Bardic Inspiration to target up to six creatures of your choice within 30 feet of you that can hear you.

Each friendly creature targeted gains temporary hit points equal to your Charisma modifier + one roll of your Bardic Inspiration die, and if the creature is frightened, the condition immediately ends. Each hostile creature targeted must succeed on a Wisdom saving throw against your spell save DC or become frightened of you and of any friendly creature that gained temporary hit points from this feature. The frightened condition in this way lasts for a number of rounds equal to the number rolled on your Bardic Inspiration die.

Dread and Delight

Your voice carries the dread of the deep and the exultation of freedom, binding your foes in terror while filling your crew with unshakable courage. You have advantage on attack rolls against creatures that are frightened, and creatures that are frightened have disadvantage on saving throws against your bard spells.

In addition, whenever you end the frightened condition on a creature, that creature regains hit points equal to your Charisma modifier plus two rolls of your Bardic Inspiration die, and it cannot become frightened again for 1 minute.

Legends

You weave truth and lies into song until no one can tell them apart, and your words echo as if carried by the sea itself. Whenever you succeed on a Charisma ability check against a creature, you can choose to magically charm that creature for 1 minute. This effect ends if you or your allies attack the creature or target it with damaging abilities or magical effects. While charmed in this way, the creature believes anything you tell it. When the effect ends, the creature decides whether it continues to believe the things you told it while it was charmed.

In addition, you gain two legend charges, which you regain whenever you finish a long rest. You can expend a legend charge to use one of the following effects:

  • Spin a Tale. Cast legend lore without expending a spell slot or requiring material components.
  • Rewrite Fate. When you fail a saving throw, you can choose to succeed instead.
  • Hidden Trinket. Produce a nonmagical item worth 50 gp or less in your hand or on your person.
  • Boast of Victory. When you roll a d20 for a d20 Test, you can grant yourself advantage on the roll.
  • Living Legend. When you arrive at a new location, you can cause every humanoid within that location to become charmed by you until the end of your next long rest.
